Holy Spirit Fire Or Hell Fire
Contributed by Ernie Arnold on Nov 28, 2017 (message contributor)
Summary: Pentecost Sunday - Contrasting the Fires of Hell and the Fire of the Holy Spirit. The Fires of Hell point to a Failure, An agony of Remembrance and are Eternal. The Fire of the Holy Spirit brings a Fullness, Renewal and are Everlasting!
Thank God, we do not have to experience that pain. Instead, we can live a life of renewal through the fire of the Holy Spirit. We can experience a life of newness. The Apostle Paul tells us in Romans 6:4 that: We were buried with Him (Jesus) through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. We all can walk in newness.
Most of us love getting new things. It isn't because we don't appreciate the old things but there is something exciting about getting something new. It's like when you get a new car, a new outfit or even a new cell phone.
I remember the times when Rebekah and I have gotten a new car. There was always an excitement and a joy that comes along with getting into it and driving it off the lot. Each one came with all kinds of new technologies and abilities. They drove better, the radio work better and the creature comforts were better.
In High School I had a 1968 Ford Mustang. It was a great car but looking back it didn't have great air conditioning and the radio wasn't the greatest. You could fly around the curves but it didn't get the greatest gas mileage nor was it totally comfortable to drive. The power steering was good but not great. At the time I thought it was the greatest car of all time. But since then I have had some newer cars with better features.
Today, my little 2013 Nissan Sentra doesn't have all the charisma of that Mustang but it does ride better, it gets better gas mileage and the air conditioner works a whole lot better. Even the radio plays better. Now, it doesn't mean that I don't appreciate that '68 Mustang but I am now use to driving a better car. And in the future I will look back on that Sentra and appreciate it while I am loving an even better car.
It's the same with clothes, with cell phones and with most everything else. It is the same with the Holy Spirit. When we receive the Holy Spirit it's like we get a whole new and better life each and every day. We wake up, we spend time with the LORD in the Word and Prayer and we receive a new Holy Spirit anointing in our lives. It never has to get old or stale. The Holy Spirit keeps us refreshed and renewed.
There is a song entitled "EVERYDAY WITH JESUS" written by Robert C. Loveless. Listen to the words of this song:
Every day with Jesus
Is sweeter than the day before
Every day with Jesus
I love Him more and more.
Jesus saves and keeps me
And He's the one I'm waiting for
Every day with Jesus
Is sweeter than the day before
The words of that song can be ours through the power and presence of the fire of the Holy Spirit. We can continually be in a progressive walk with the LORD. Nothing with the LORD needs to ever get old and stagnated.
Thomas Merton reminds us: "By reading the scriptures I am so renewed that all nature seems renewed around me and with me. The sky seems to be a pure, a cooler blue, the trees a deeper green. The whole world is charged with the glory of God and I feel fire and music under my feet."
