Heavenly Signs for 2017

We are about to experience two amazing astronomical events over the course of the summer. Events many believe are prophetic Signs of the Times.

According to NASA…

"On Monday, August 21, 2017, all of North America will be treated to an eclipse of the sun. Anyone within the path of totality can see one of nature’s most awe inspiring sights - a total solar eclipse. This eclipse will cross the middle of the United States from Oregon in the west to South Carolina in the east. The path of darkness will be about 70 miles across. There will be a very sudden drop in temperature along with the darkness. In some areas it will last more than 2 minutes.

People will be able to see the light of the sun around the moon like a shimmering crown. It is being called the “Great American Eclipse” because its path cuts across the middle of the United States."

So why all the hype?

Turn to Leviticus 12:1-6 and read it.

This soon to appear eclipse just happens to fit into the Feast day timeline of the Jews. 33 days plus seven. The eclipse is 33 days before the Feast of Trumpets Rosh HaShanah and 40 days before Yom Kippur. Those are powerful coincidences.

What is interesting is that it is a call to purification that precedes a birth instead of following a birth.

Maybe what has been birthed in America is cause for purification?

I’m not sure how to interpret this one but the dates line up in such a way that it is hard not to admit there is a connection here. Very interesting indeed. But once again we will have to wait till after the event to ascribe any prophetic importance.

There are many Christians who look at the movements of the heavenly bodies as Biblical signs. We have a Biblical record of them, here are a few…

Genesis 1:14

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

Signs of what you might ask?

Well God used the heavens to create the sign of the rainbow as a visible covenant. Genesis 9:13

13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.

God also used a star as a sign to direct the Wise men to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Numbers 24:17

17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel,

These kinds of heavenly signs are meant to remind us that God is in charge and we must bow to His Glory and Holiness. They remind us that God deals with our sins and that we should repent and get our spiritual house in order. These signs also remind us that God is reaching out to communicate with the entire world not just Christians and Jews.

When God projects His glory in the Heavens He is reminding us that we all have an expiration date, and that we best get right with Him before that date arrives. God uses His big screen in the heavens to communicate with everyone on earth at the same time with the same message. Repent.

God will not and cannot ignore the sins of this world. These Heavenly signs are like God’s wristwatch counting down to the day of Jesus arrival.

So what Biblical implication could this upcoming total solar eclipse have?

Some say it is a judgement against the United States as the Sun represents Gentile nations and the Moon represents Israel. Others say it is just an eclipse. Time will tell.

The next Heavenly sign is said to take place on September 23rd, 2017. Many point to Revelation 12:1-6

Last week we talked about watching out for the signs of Jesus return.

Could it be that what Jesus spoke about in Rev. 12:1-6 is about to happen?

Matthew 24 Jesus lays out the string of events that will usher in His appearing in the last days. He called them “Birth Pains”. Matt 24:8

8 All these are the beginning of birth pains/sorrows.

We have spent weeks looking at Jesus share the parables with us. He continues to use the same theme of a Bride Groom and Bride and wedding feast in such a way that we should take notice. Just what is Jesus trying to prepare us for? It’s not unusual for a birth to follow a wedding. So now Jesus points us to a future event.

We are being given a warning to prepare our hearts and lives for the coming judgement of God on this godless world.
