Summary: Funeral Sermon for a dear saint of the Lord

Heaven

John 14:1-3

A little girl asked her slightly older sister why Grandma read her Bible so much. The reply, “I think she is studying for her final exams.” Wiser folk think about heaven sooner rather than later. Life has no guarantees!

You see heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people,

Bob has claimed the promise Jesus makes to all who believe on Him when He said, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." - John 14:1-3.

Bob has heard the words of the Savior, "Come, ye blessed of my Fa¬ther, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world."- Matthew 25:34.

Just think ......

Of stepping out of this life and waking up and finding that you’re home! BOB has been received by the Lord!

Imagine being reunited with loved ones—parents, grandparents, friends from years past, a spouse, children who died before you!

Heaven will be one grand reunion for the redeemed.

Bob was a good man—An honest man-He came up the hard way—and worked hard.-He had lots of injuries through life, but always recovered from them. He was tought—that’s not just a word—it is true

Bob was a man with a dry sense of humor:

Everytime you would shake hands with him He would say, have you got $5. You would say yeah, He would say, keep it-you might need it.

In the last year he got on this kick about being called Robert and not Bob-We went through that!!Ha

In heaven, we will all receive new bodies.

1.The aches and pains will be gone.

2.Disease and suffering will end.

3.No more cancer.

4.No more Alzheimer’s.

5. No more arthritis.

6.Eyes blinded by diabetes will see.

7.All of the disabilities and limitations of this decaying, aging, finite body will be gone. (1 Corinthians 15:42-44) declares “42So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. 43It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 44It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. “42-44

Often times w/Robert in his last years, he would think of someone who was in need or had problems and would come in and tell Robert about it. When asked, “Where do they live?” His response to Robert would be, “You know” And Robert wouldn’t know who he was talking about.

I.When Bob walked into heaven:

A.The first thing he saw was a throne.

1.This is God’s throne and He was sitting on His throne.

2.It looked like a jasper or an emerald. We cannot imagine the

beauty and radiance of God.

3.Consider the famous Hope Diamond at the Smithsonian. A thick,

shatterproof glass wall and an armed guard protect it. The many

people that wait in line to see the Hope Diamond express an

awe, and a feeling of rapture. Worth is $250,000,000

But this is nothing, this is dirt compared to God.

B.Behind the throne was a sparkling rainbow.

1. The twenty-four elders, clothed with glistening, white

garments and pure gold crowns on their heads, were seated

upon the twenty-four seats.

a.There was the 4 Living Creatures

b.The beautiful River of Life was flowing out from under the

throne and pure water of life was freely accessible.

C.The streets were made of pure, transparent gold,.

D.A place of incomparable beauty. Paul said• it well in I Corinthians 2:9: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard; neither has the mid conceived, what God has prepared for those that love him.”

One time a skid pole fell on him—skid pole is 2 poles laid from the ground up to the truck to pull the logs up on the truck—broke his jaw. Went to the doctor and the doctor told him not to eat anything,

Bob said, I couldn’t eat a banana.

One time they were hauling logs for Snooks Davis---Snooks wanted to help and started pulling on the front tong causing it to swing the log around and broke Bob’s ribs.

They bandaged him up and he went back to work.

II. REJOICING

A. HEAVEN IS A PLACE OF JOY.

1.Why is there Joy there.

2.There will be no sin there

3.There will be no more hurting

4.There will be no more partings

5.No more pain in this body

6.God will wipe away every tear and there will be no more crying.

One time Bob’s mules ran away-The grab hook hung in his finger and almost tore it off—About 3 days later he was cutting stove wood with an axe and because of the sore finger he cut his thumb off. It was just hanging by the skin. When he get to the doctor, the doctor said to Bob, “You might want to turn your head, I’m going to cut this skin holding your thumb.” Bob replied, “I didn’t turn my head when I cut it off, why should I turn my head now!”
