Emphasizes the importance of discerning and following the Holy Spirit's guidance in our lives, as revealed through the Bible.
Dear beloved in Christ,
We gather here today, not as strangers, but as a family united under the banner of God's everlasting love. We are here, not by chance, but by divine appointment. Each of us, in our own unique way, has heard the gentle whisper, the guiding voice of God, calling us into His presence, into His fellowship, and into His divine purpose.
In the words of the esteemed Charles Spurgeon, "A Bible that's falling apart usually belongs to someone who isn't." This quote, my dear friends, is a reminder of the importance of immersing ourselves in the living word of God, the Bible. It is through the Bible that we discern the voice of God, that we distinguish His distinct voice amidst the cacophony of the world.
The scripture that we will contemplate today is from the book of John, chapter 16, verses 7 to 15:
"Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin, because they do not believe in me; concerning righteousness, because I go to the Father, and you will see me no longer; concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you."
These verses, friends, are a treasure trove of divine wisdom, revealing the role of the Holy Spirit in our lives - guiding us, convicting us, and revealing to us the truth that is in Christ Jesus.
Let us open our hearts and minds to the divine direction of the Holy Spirit. Let us learn to distinguish His distinct voice from the many voices that seek to distract us. Let us understand the dynamics of the Holy Spirit's work in our lives.
