Summary: 1 John 4:19 says “We love Him because He first loved us.” I submit that you can’t be called of Him if you don’t love Him. Furthermore, you can’t love Him if you are not called of Him! The Love and The Calling go hand in hand!

Romans 8:27-28 (NKJV) He Who Searches The Hearts 9/18/2022

“Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”

Intro: The preceding verse 26 provides us the context for verse 27 concerning He who searches the hearts. It says that the Spirit of God helps us in our weaknesses and “that we do not know what we should pray for as we ought to, BUT the HOLY GHOST Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” Paul assures is that when we don’t know what to say to God in our hour of weakness, the Holy Spirit helps us to communicate with our Creator by providing translation through our groans! When we can’t find the words, God has got you! When all we can do is groan, the Holy Ghost says, I understand you and I’ll tell it to The Father who searches your heart! Jeremiah 17:9 says, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” You see, because even when your heart condemns you God is greater than your heart!

I. The Spirit Gives Confidence - Paul's statement is a shocking statement, but it is absolutely true nonetheless! God’s reputation rides on this verse being true! It is a promise that is as good as the God Who made it! Jesus said in John 8:32, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Pastor F.B. Meyer said, "If any promise of God should fail, the heavens would cloth themselves in sackcloth; the sun, the moon and the stars would reel from their courses; the universe would rock, and a hollow wind would moan through a ruined creation the awful fact that God can lie." REMEMBER: God did not say that all things are good, but that they will work for the good.

The Poet Rebeka Nolt wrote:

The will of God will never take you…

Where the grace of God cannot keep you.

Where the arms of God cannot support you,

Where the riches of God cannot supply your needs,

Where the power of God cannot endow you.

The will of God will never take you…

Where the spirit of God cannot work through you,

Where the wisdom of God cannot teach you,

Where the army of God cannot protect you,

Where the hands of God cannot mold you.

The will of God will never take you…

Where the love of God cannot enfold you,

Where the mercies of God cannot sustain you,

Where the peace of God cannot calm your fears,

Where the authority of God cannot overrule for you.

The will of God will never take you…

Where the comfort of God cannot dry your tears,

Where the Word of God cannot feed you,

Where the miracles of God cannot be done for you,

Where the omnipresence of God cannot find you.

II. The Spirit Gives Completion - Not "most", not "some", but "ALL" In fact, everything in the life of the child of God is working for your good! Even the things you don't understand, or even like! Paul says in Philippians 1:6, “being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Michael Jordan once said, “I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." There are several examples in the Word of God where extremely sorrowful things happened to people and it all worked for their good in the end. ILLS: Governor Joseph (What you meant for evil God meant for good) - King David (I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread) - Queen Esther (Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?) - Councilor Daniel (King Darius wrote: To all peoples, nations, and languages that dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you. I make a decree that in every dominion of my kingdom men must tremble and fear before the God of Daniel. For He is the living God, And steadfast forever; His kingdom is the one which shall not be destroyed, And His dominion shall endure to the end. He delivers and rescues, And He works signs and wonders In heaven and on earth, Who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.) Often the sickbed, the valley of suffering, or the time of sorrow can out teach any sermon! Someone preached once that, it is the eye that is washed with tears that sees the best!
