Song of Songs 8: 1 – 14
He’s Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Beloved
1 Oh, that you were like my brother, who nursed at my mother’s breasts! If I should find you outside, I would kiss you; I would not be despised. 2 I would lead you and bring you into the house of my mother, she who used to instruct me. I would cause you to drink of spiced wine, of the juice of my pomegranate. 3 His left hand is under my head, and his right hand embraces me. 4 I charge you, O daughters of Jerusalem, do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases. 5 Who is this coming up from the wilderness, leaning upon her beloved? I awakened you under the apple tree. There your mother brought you forth; There she who bore you brought you forth. 6 Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death, jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, a most vehement flame. 7 Many waters cannot quench love, nor can the floods drown it. If a man would give for love all the wealth of his house, it would be utterly despised. 8 We have a little sister, and she has no breasts. What shall we do for our sister in the day when she is spoken for? 9 If she is a wall, we will build upon her a battlement of silver; And if she is a door, we will enclose her with boards of cedar. 10 I am a wall, and my breasts like towers; Then I became in his eyes as one who found peace. 11 Solomon had a vineyard at Baal Hamon; He leased the vineyard to keepers; Everyone was to bring for its fruit a thousand silver coins. 12 My own vineyard is before me. You, O Solomon, may have a thousand, and those who tend its fruit two hundred. 13 You who dwell in the gardens, the companions listen for your voice— Let me hear it! 14 Make haste, my beloved, and be like a gazelle or a young stag on the mountains of spices.
I hope that if you have been with me through the book of Song of Songs that you have been blessed to see the great beauty of a pure and wholesome relationship between a man and a woman. This is a book of our Holy Bible. When you study it as it was intended by our Precious Holy Spirit then there is nothing dirty or silly about it. To me it sets the standard on how we as husbands and wives should treat each other.
Chapter 7 ended with the couple totally satisfied with each other which encompassed their physical and emotional issues. With the contentment of knowing that she was truly his love she now desires to grow deeper in their relationship.

Sadly, in counseling, you see the ugly side of relationships. Say, if you measured their relationships when they first said ‘I do’ as 100% to where they are when they enter the counseling office, it is a no brainer how low the percentage drops. Most couples are happy to bring the percentage to a 70 or 80 percentile. This is not good enough for me. I tell the couple that they are both imperfect and based on my mathematics, imperfect plus imperfect does not equal perfect. However, based on the Gospel of Matthew chapter 19 verse 26, “But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” When you add the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth to the equation, then imperfect plus imperfect can equal perfect. Our Precious Lord and Master Yeshua can not only make your relationship equal 100 % again like you first experienced on your honeymoon but can move your love, affection, and desire over 100%.
Doesn’t it just hurt your heart when you notice a couple that is truly in love with each other. You compare your marriage to what you see in this other couple and you feel shortchanged. We read in verse one how the young wife desires to enter more deeply into this type of relationship. She wasn’t satisfied with the great living interactions and neither should we settle for anything but the best. Amen?
