Summary: As the victories in the life of David reaches a thrilling gradual crescendo, sadly David lets down his guard and gives room for satan to attack his mind.

Guard your mind!

2 Samuel 11:2 “It happened, late one afternoon, when David arose from his couch and was walking on the roof of the king's house, that he saw from the roof a woman bathing; and the woman was very beautiful.”

As the victories in the life of David reaches a thrilling gradual crescendo, sadly David lets down his guard and gives room for satan to attack his mind. Satan knows where to hit! While David was physically alert, David slackened to guard his mind resulting in allowing his eyes to look at a woman; this was no casual look but his lustful eyes were fixed on Bathsheba and he dared to defile her. This sin of David committing adultery with another man’s wife brought serious repercussions in his life. Be warned today!

Jumping into another relationship is not the answer for a broken marriage. Are you listening to me? Analyze mistakes on both sides, get godly counseling, fast and pray for God’s leading, never hastily get into another mess. Beware of Illicit friendship outside marriage! This is an atrocious sin that is ubiquitous in today’s modern world.

Just pause and seriously read this portion of the message: don’t you ever think that you would not come under the attack of satan because you are a Bible college student, or because you are a committee member of the church; the devil knows exactly what buttons to push in your life, what gets you off, what distracts you or takes you out of the battle. Beware! The stink of adultery, immorality and lust has no barriers, be it prayer fellowship, church, prayer cells, youth group, outreach ministry, they can butt in anywhere! Caution!

Whether you realize it or not, the decisions you are making at this time in your life, or the lack of decisions, and the life you are living, is setting you on a track for life. Years from now you may wonder, “How did I get here?” “Why are these things happening to me?” Very likely they will be the result of the direction you’re heading at this time. There are some who are recklessly falling in and out of love and also daringly living immoral lives. We need to take all precautions and be careful not to allow our heart to easily fall prey to our emotions. Please listen to me, you cannot carelessly live your life today and expect God to bless your future, diligently seek to live a holy life and guard your heart from every evil. Proverbs 4: 27 says, “Do not turn to the right or the left, remove your foot from evil”. Are you hearing me? Paul says in Colossians 3:5-6-- Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming”. God will deal with every wrong ever done, nothing slips through the cracks of God’s justice. We better guard our heart against all evil!

How do I guard my heart? The answer is simple; by carefully feeding the heart with good and godly things. Far too often our minds are not focused on the things of God because the mind is occupied with the things of the world.

Let’s take a stand today. Purpose this morning that your mind and your heart will not be a garbage dump for Satan. Are you ready to decide right now that you will keep your heart pure for God’s use and God’s alone? Have you allowed your heart to become defiled? Come to God today and confess it and He will make your heart as white as snow.
