INTRODUCTION:
Good Friday is not just a date on the Christian calendar; it is the foundation of our faith and the turning point of history. It commemorates the day Jesus Christ willingly went to the Cross and paid the ultimate price for the sins of humanity. He who knew no sin became sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. The Cross is not a symbol of defeat but of divine love and eternal victory.
The sacrifice of Jesus was not accidental—it was intentional, prophetic, and powerful. From the Garden of Eden to the prophecies of Isaiah, God's plan to redeem mankind was always centred on the suffering Saviour. Jesus endured humiliation, betrayal, pain, and separation from the Father so that we might be reconciled back to God. He bore the full weight of our iniquities and carried our burdens to the Cross.
Good Friday reminds us that salvation is free, but it is not cheap. Jesus paid the highest price imaginable—His own blood—to redeem us from the curse of sin, sickness, and death. The phrase “It is finished” is not a cry of defeat, but a declaration of completed redemption. The debt is paid in full. Our healing, deliverance, and eternal life were all purchased at Calvary.
1. THE PRICE WAS COSTLY
a) The cost was the life of the Son of God
John 3:16 – God’s love was revealed through the giving of His Son.
b) The price required blood
Hebrews 9:22 – Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin.
c) Jesus suffered in every aspect of human life
Psalm 22:14-17 – A vivid prophecy of the agony of the crucifixion.
d) His sacrifice was a choice, not a consequence
John 10:18 – Jesus laid down His life of His own accord.
Biblical Example: Abraham and Isaac (Genesis 22:1-13)
A picture of God offering His only Son as a sacrifice for mankind.
2. THE PRICE WAS FOR OUR SINS
a) Humanity stood condemned before a holy God
Romans 3:23 – All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.
b) Jesus became our substitute
Isaiah 53:5 – He was punished in our place.
c) He became sin to make us righteous
2 Corinthians 5:21 – He who knew no sin became sin for us.
d) The Cross reconciled us back to God
Matthew 27:51 – The torn veil symbolised open access to the Father.
Biblical Example: Barabbas (Matthew 27:15-26)
A guilty man was released, and Jesus took his place—just like us.
3. THE PRICE BROUGHT HEALING AND DELIVERANCE
a) Jesus restored what sin had broken
Romans 5:10 – Through His death, we were reconciled to God.
b) He carried our emotional pain
Isaiah 53:4 – He bore our griefs and sorrows.
c) Healing flows from His wounds
1 Peter 2:24 – By His stripes we are healed.
d) The curse is broken through the Cross
Galatians 3:13 – Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law.
Biblical Example: The Woman with the Issue of Blood (Mark 5:25-34)
Her healing was a result of faith in the power of Jesus, the Healer.
4. THE PRICE SECURED ETERNAL REDEMPTION
a) Jesus offered one eternal sacrifice
Hebrews 9:12 – He entered the Most Holy Place once and for all.
b) Believers become sons and heirs
Galatians 4:4-7 – We are adopted into God's family through Christ.
c) We were bought with a price
1 Corinthians 6:20 – Our lives now belong to God.
d) Salvation is not earned but received
Ephesians 2:8-9 – It is the gift of God, not of works.
Biblical Example: The Passover Lamb (Exodus 12:1-13)
Just as the blood spared Israel, Christ’s blood spares us from eternal death.
5. THE PRICE WAS PAID IN FULL
a) “It is finished” was a declaration of victory
John 19:30 – The work of redemption was completed on the Cross.
b) The record of sin is cancelled
Colossians 2:14 – Our debts were nailed to the Cross.
c) Jesus is the all-sufficient Saviour
Titus 3:5 – We are saved by His mercy, not our merit.
d) Nothing else is needed for your salvation
Galatians 6:14 – We boast only in the Cross.
Biblical Example: Year of Jubilee (Leviticus 25:10)
The year of release and freedom illustrates the full payment Christ made for us.
CONCLUSION:
The Cross was not a tragic end—it was the triumphant fulfilment of God’s plan. Jesus did not die as a victim but as a victorious Saviour. The price He paid covers every area of your life: your sins are forgiven, your body can be healed, your mind can be renewed, and your destiny can be restored. Good Friday is a celebration of a finished work—one that no devil, power, or force can undo.
