This sermon aims to explore and understand the depth of God's unconditional love, the power of faith, and the strength of hope as expressed in Romans 8:31-39.

Introduction

Good morning, my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ! Today, we're going to be diving deep into the heart of Romans 8, a passage that shines a powerful light on God's unconditional love, the power of faith, and the strength of hope. The great Christian author, C.S. Lewis, once said, "Though our feelings come and go, God's love for us does not." That's something we're going to see in a whole new light as we explore the scriptures today.

So, let's read together from Romans 8:31-39: "What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: 'For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.' No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

I. God's Unconditional Love

God's unconditional love is a profound and central theme in the Bible, and it is beautifully illustrated in the passage we just read from Romans 8. The Apostle Paul, in this passage, is reminding us of a fundamental truth about our relationship with God - His love for us is not based on our performance, our goodness, or our ability to keep His laws. Instead, His love for us is unconditional, unchanging, and unending.

A. The first aspect of God's unconditional love that we see in this passage is its sacrificial nature. Paul writes, "He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?" This is a powerful reminder of the extent of God's love for us. He was willing to sacrifice His only Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for our sins so that we could be reconciled to Him. This is the greatest expression of love that the world has ever known. It is a love that is willing to give up everything, even life itself, for the sake of the beloved.

B. Another aspect of God's unconditional love that we see in this passage is its protective nature. Paul asks, "If God is for us, who can be against us?" This rhetorical question underscores the fact that with God on our side, we have nothing to fear. His love for us is so strong that He will protect us from anything that seeks to harm us. This doesn't mean that we won't face challenges or difficulties in life, but it does mean that in the midst of those challenges, we can be confident that God is with us, fighting for us, and working all things together for our good.

C. We also see in this passage the enduring nature of God's unconditional love. Paul writes, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." This is perhaps the most comforting aspect of God's love. No matter what we go through in life, no matter what mistakes we make, no matter how far we may feel from God, His love for us remains constant. Nothing can separate us from His love.
