GOD OF THE LIVING, NOT OF THE DEAD

(Mk. 12:26-27)

26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”

INTRO: Mankind has always seen death as a mystery. Mystery in the sense that it is compared to darkness. Some people, when a loved one dies – missing them – go to the occult, to be deceived by evil spirits masked, in believing that they spoke to those persons. I say this with conviction because the word says in Heb. 9:27 “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment”

What about our beloved Brother? What does the Scripture says about our brother that labored in the Kingdom of God?

I. REESTABLISH A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

A. He relized that he needed to give his life to our Lord Jesus Christ

1)His son Francisco became real sick and he made a

promise to give his life if his son lived!

B. Walk in the will of God and not of man

1)When others didn’t follow and left the Lord, he didn’t

II. BE FAITHFUL IN THIS LIFE

A. Serve the Lord with what we have

1)Teacher of Sunday School, President of Men’s Dept.,

Deacon and Secretary Treasurer of Church

B. He had gotten sick of _____

1)He wanted to live and fought winning over this

sickness, why?

1- Phil 1:21-25”For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. 22 If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! 23 I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; 24 but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. 25 Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,

III. HOW DOES GOD SEES IT?

A. In man’s plans

1)Heb. 9:27 “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,”

2)2 Sam. 14:14” Like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be recovered, so we must die. But God does not take away life; instead, he devises ways so that a banished person may not remain estranged from him.

3)Rom. 5:12” Therefore, just as sin entered the world

through one man, and death through sin, and in this

way death came to all men, because all sinned—

B. In God’s Plan

1)Mr. 12:26, 27”Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the book of Moses, in the account of the bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”

He is a God of persons that though they have died 1000’s years ago, He talks about them as being alive!

2)Jn 11:25 “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies;

3)We have a great cloud of witnesses

(a)Heb. 12:1 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off \

everything that hinders and the sin that so easily

entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race

marked out for us.

C. The Christian – Lives even after this life

1) Phil 1:21 “ For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

2)Luke 16:22 “The time came when the beggar died and

the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich

man also died and was buried.

3)Rev. 21:4 “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

(a)Why would god wipe every tear from his eyes?

1 – No more death – I am the resurrection and.....

2 – No more mourning – He will not be afflicted

by those that knowing don’t want to be

saved!

3 – No more crying – He won’t have to cry out

for those that are in danger of losing their soul

4 – No more pain – He won’t be sadden

anymore by those that refuse to serve His

God

D. He will receive His reward

1)Mat. 25:21 “ “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
