God Loves. God Promises. God Sends! Series
Contributed by Paul Clemente on Feb 19, 2018 (message contributor)
Summary: God provides for everything but calls on people to work with Him.
Let us continue to worship our God by learning more about Him through God’s Word. Open your bibles to Exodus Chapter 3…. We noted last week from the beginning of Exodus 3 how Moses miraculously met God! God knows all and is present everywhere but He is a personal God to all who are searching for truth. Moses was searching for truth, believed in God, and God called Him to work to spread God’s love and glory.
I have asked Janet Hansen to read again for us, Exodus 3:7-22……..
Let us focus on v7-10 today. You see, the passage should have ended at v10; God loves! God promises! God sends! But as we will note more next week, the man Moses made it a bit more complicated than it should have been. Before we look at Moses, who represent us, let us note what God does!
We note at the beginning of v7 - The LORD said, “I have indeed seen the misery of my people in Egypt.” Is this saying God finally noticed the hardships of the Israelites?
There are 3 things we need to note before learning from v7:
1. God created everything (Genesis 1) and God knows everything (multiple scriptures)!
2. God is a loving God!
a. The whole bible reveals God’s love for people!
I truly believe that God created people because of His love; God desires to share Himself with people! God is self sufficient; God does not need any worshipers; God created people to share His love, glory, beauty, power for eternity!
b. Jesus Christ is the ultimate demonstration of God’s love!
3. God waited for the people’s prayers! (Exodus 2:16-25)
And so, v7 is basically saying: God loved the Israelites but waited for their prayers!
And how do we sum up what is stated in v8-9??
God gave promises! God actually gave 3 promises!
a. To be rescued from Egyptian slavery
b. To live in a land good, spacious, and flowing with milk and honey
And what is the third promise??
c. To win the battles against ungodly people! Even though the Promised Land was inhabited, God already made a promise that the Israelites would overcome them; to overcome at least 6 ungodly nations!
And how was all of this going to be accomplished according to v10??
God was sending Moses to bring the Israelites out of Egypt!
I noted something interesting here, maybe you noticed too? God promised the Israelites not only to be delivered out of Egypt but to overcome the ungodly people in the Promised land. What was Moses called to do??
Who led the Israelites into the Promised Land??
Moses had a specific calling!!
We can summarize this passage Exodus 3:7-10 with these truths: God loves! God promises! God sends!
God did everything that was needed right? the chapter should have ended here!! But as we read, God called Moses but this human had all sorts of excuses! Let’s save that discussion for next week.
For today, let us meditate on these truths:
1. The Almighty God, who created everything, loves and cares for each one of us!
Let us note again Romans 5:8 – But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
But let us not just pull this verse out of context; Romans 5:1 states this… Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.
And so, God loves, but….
God’s love is manifested through faith and faith is believing in and taking action in what God says! Hebrews 12:1-2 basically tells us… Daily live a life of faith, fixing our eyes on Jesus Christ! May this be our motto for our daily lives!
2. The Almighty God, who will judge the living and the dead, has promised eternal life to those who believe (John 3:16).
But also, like God did with Moses, Believers of Jesus Christ are called to go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation!
3. God is sending us to wherever we go to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Let us always be alert of sharing Jesus Christ to people!
