We are continuing our study of the first Book of the Bible. Please open your Bibles to Genesis Chapter 1, page……
So far, we have noted:
God has always existed. God is beyond time and space!
God created the earth and the sun on the first day.
God created the original sky on the second day.
God made the land, the seas, plants & trees on the 3rd day.
Some people question whether the days in Genesis 1 were actual 24 hour days because God couldn’t have created everything in 6 – 24 hour days.
How many of you don’t know whether the days of Creation were actual 24 hour days?
How many of you believe that the days of Creation were actual 24 hour days?
What are the bases for believing that the days of Creation were actual 24 hour days??
1. God can create instantly! (God said…..and it was so!)
2. God defines a day as having one evening and one morning (v5, 8, 13, 19, 23, 31).
3. The 4th Commandment affirms 24 hour days of Creation (Exodus 20:8-11).
Is it really that difficult to accept the fact that God is a powerful God who can create in His own time?
God created everything in 6 – 24 hour days and rested on the 7th day because God is a God of order! God established the 7 day week for the benefit of people.
Now, let’s look at what God did for us on the 4th and 5th day of Creation. Read along with me Genesis 1:14-23………..
What did God create on the 4th day (v14-19)?
- lights in the expanse of the sky
What are these lights? They are true stars. And what are true stars? God created more suns!
According to scientists today, does anyone know how many stars there are in the universe??? – over 70 sextillion (22zeros)
Now look at v16…………….. What did God create?
- God created the moon (the lesser light for the night)
What about the stars at the end of v16? Is God being redundant? Are these stars more suns? What do we see in the sky at night???
We see the moon, other suns (true stars), and what? – other planets! On the fourth day, God not only created the moon for us but also, - all the other planets
God created the entire universe in a day! How big is the universe? (show picture)
Scientists will tell you that the universe is so big, no one really knows how big it is! The universe has no edge!
The universe is limitless!
And why did God create this vast, beautiful universe?
Look again at v17-18…………
God created the universe for the earth!
And why did God create the earth??
God created the earth for people!
God created the entire universe for you and me!
And besides land, water, plants & trees, what did God create on earth for us on the 5th day (v20-23)?
We will read in our bibles today the answer to one of the hardest question in the world! “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” According to v20-21, God created the chicken first. The egg was not created until v22 which reads………
Reproduction of the created living creatures started at the end of the 5th day of Creation.
- God made all the birds in the world (from the smallest, hummingbird picture, to the largest, ostrich picture).
- and God made all the living creatures in the water!
Look again at v21........
What are the great creatures of the sea?? (pictures)
And God created every living and moving thing with which the water teems. What creatures can we find in water???
pictures: fish, shrimp, lobster, crab, plankton, mosquitoes
God blessed the creatures and told them, “Be fruitful and increase in number!” – God created living creatures to reproduce to fill the water and the sky! Why did God do this? How do you feel when you see God’s creation?
(pictures of flocks, picture of dog, babies, Nate, M & M)
And after God created the earth, the sun, the sky, the land and the seas, we read in v10….
After God created the plants and trees, v12…….
After creating the universe, v18…..
After creating all the creatures in the waters and sky, v21…
After creating all land creatures, v25………
And after creating everything, especially people, v31….
God is a good God!
God is a God of order!
He established time and order for us.
God is a powerful God!
He created everything with just a word!
God is a loving God!
He created the universe for the earth, which is our home.
God is ubiquitous! Whether in outer space or the depths of the seas, God is there!
How do we respond to this God??
