We read from the Gospel of John, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men……. The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Please open your Bibles to Genesis Chapter 1.

In the beginning, on the First Day, during the first evening and first morning, God created the earth and the sun and it was good! On the 2nd Day, God create the original sky and it was good! On the 3rd day, God created the land and the seas and the plants and trees and it was good!

On the 4th day, God created the entire universe and it was good! On the 5th day, God created all the living creatures in water and all the birds in the sky, and it was good!

God is good, all the time! All the time, God is good!

But you know, on the 6th day, God wasn’t good.

Look at v31 of Genesis 1…………

God is not just good, God is very good!

Let’s all stand together and read Genesis 1:24-31………

On the 6th Day, God created all land creatures (livestock, all crawling creatures, wild animals, and man).

Now, we can note many important truths from Day 6 of Creation.

In v26-27, we can note 4 truths:

1. God is One but He is Plural (God said, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness..….)

2.

In v1 of Genesis 1, we see God the Creator; In the beginning God created……...

In v2 of Genesis 1, we see God the Holy Spirit. And as we had read from the Gospel of John, everything was created through God the Son, Jesus Christ. The word Trinity is not in the Bible, but there are many passages describing God as One but 3 Persons.

We can note 2ndly from Genesis 1:26-27 that Man was created in God’s image, in God’s likeness. The original Hebrew word for image in this passage is “tselem” which means a representative. Man was created to represent God and to be like God.

God is spirit. Man has a spirit.

God is plural. Man was created male and female.

God is moral. Man has conscience.

God is creative. Man creates art, music, machines..…

Jesus Christ with the Holy Spirit is redeeming Christians to be like Him.

3rdly, we can note from v26-27, Man (male and female) was created to rule over the earth and everything in it.

Man originally had control over all the animals in the world!

Man gave names to all the animals!

Now, how many of you are afraid to swim in the ocean because of sharks?? And why are many Filipinos afraid of the ocean? – because it’s tubig! Tubig is water in Filipino…. Hahaha!

If you’re in a jungle without a weapon in Africa, are you the king? The lion is the king of the jungle. How many of you are afraid of spiders or insects??

Some say we all accidentally eat about 8 spiders a year! Yukkk!

We don’t have complete rule over all the creatures of the earth, do we?

Something happened to God’s original plan. We’ll talk more about this later.

And 4thly, we can note from v26-27, God created man, as male and female. Why did God create male and female? If God didn’t create male and female, God couldn’t have said v28………….

You know, I think if God didn’t create female, man would still be in the forest naming animals (show pictures: bird, ostritch, skunk, pig, lemur). Man would call this bird a red-winged black bird. This bird, man would call bug-eyed, longneck, ugly looking, big bird. This animal, stinky black critter with white stripe. What do you think man would call this animal??- pig! And by the time man gets around to this animal, he would just call it “freaky”!

God knew the world needs a woman!

Again, we note from v31 that all God created was very good! But besides creating everything, what else did God do?

Look again at v28. God blessed man and woman and commanded them.

And in v29-30, God provided for His Creation!

Again we read in v31, People and all God’s creation were very good! But today, we talk about pollution, wars, brutal crimes, animals and people gone wild. Something tragic happened to God’s very good creation! Sin, disobedience to God, ruined God’s very good creation. See Gen 3:11-19…..

Because of sin, the earth and everything in it (including people) was cursed! The curse continues today.
