• Shuler the music

The song “Make Me a Blessing” is a wonderful prayer that we should sing to God often.

This song has become the heart cry of Christians everywhere.

It should be the desire of every person to be a blessing to others.

The words to that song goes like this in the first verse.

Out in the highways and byways

Many are weary and sad;

I want to bring some sunshine

To make the down hearted glad

Some loss soul is dying

Some one in despair I want to let them know that there's someone who cares

Make me a blessing,

Make me a blessing Out of my life

Let Jesus shine;

Make me a blessing to some one today

This is truly a wonderful prayer that we sing to the Lord.

But anytime we sing we must remember we can SING A LIE as well as to SPEAK A LIE.

I truly believe that I am speaking to a congregation that truly want God to MAKE THEM A BLESSING.

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT WHY GOD BLESSES US THE WAY HE DOES?

Look at Psalm 68:19, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.”

The word “Selah” here means, “Think about this!”

That is exactly what we want to do, think about what the Psalmist said. EVERY DAY GOD LOADS US DOWN WITH HIS BOMMERANG BLESSINGS!

WHY DOES GOD DO THIS?

Illus: I am sure you are familiar with a boomerang.

The way it works, YOU THROW IT AWAY FROM YOU AND IT COMES BACK TO YOU.

This is how God works, He blesses us so we in return use those blessings to help others.

This is what the Bible teaches.

Look at Ecclesiastes 11:1 Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.

Casting bread upon the waters evokes the law of sowing and reaping. The seed in this case is one’s acts of goodness. There will be a harvest in heaven, if not in this world.

But the point Solomon makes is more than that we should sow goodness in order to reap a future harvest; the idea is for us to become people who will do good for goodness’ sake, irrespective of the harvest.

Illus: The human heart is a wonderful thing. It pumps blood in at one valve and then sends it out through another valve.

• It never stores up blood. It is constantly circulating throughout the body.

• It receives…then gives! It receives…then gives! It receives…then gives!

Everything God does He has a reason!

God loads us down with His blessings for two reasons:

(1) Because He loves us!

(2) Because He wants us to RECEIVE HIS BLESSING AND USE THEM TO BE A BLESSING!

Every day, our Heavenly Father loads us down with His blessings!

We are a blessed people!

Illus: Someone said:

• If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture or death...you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.

• If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead, and a place to sleep...you are richer than 75% of this world.

• If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace...you are among the top 8% of the worlds wealthy.

The problem we have in America when it comes to God’s blessings we have some thing in mind that is different than what God has in mind!

For example, today to listen to some of these television preachers you do not think God has blessed you unless you are RICH AND FAMOUS.

Illus: A minister was addressing a group of men. He took a large piece of paper and made a black dot in the center of it with a marking pen. Then he held the paper up before the group and asked them what they saw.

• One person quickly replied, “I see a black dot in the center of the page.”

• The preacher replied. “What else do you see?”

• Complete silence prevailed. “Don’t you see anything other than the black dot?

• A chorus of “no’s” came from the audience. “I’m really surprised.”

• The speaker then commented, “You have completely overlooked the most important thing of all — the sheet of paper the black dot is on.”

Like the sheet of paper, the good things God has blessed us with are far more important than those things that capture our attention.

I want to say again, most of us, as we work our way through life, truly want God to bless us and and use us to be a blessing!
