Summary: God did not look on the appearance, on the height of the stature of a person, on the beauty, on the mighty. He never choose like how we choose. Samuel said to Jesse “God did not choose anyone of these”(1Sam.16:10). Then who?

David: God's Choice

I Sam 13:14. “But now your kingdom will not continue; the Lord has sought out a man after his own heart and the Lord has appointed him to be ruler over his people, because you have not kept because what the Lord has commanded you”.

Choosing criteria:

God did not look on the appearance, on the height of the stature of a person, on the beauty, on the mighty. He never chooses like how we choose. Samuel said to Jesse “God did not choose anyone of these” (1Sam.16:10). Mary sings ‘he looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant’(Lk.1:48). God does not look for educated, rich or the powerful. Deut.7:7 says “it was not because you were more numerous than any other people that the Lord set his heart on you and chose you but for you were the fewest of all peoples”. God seeks the lost, rejected, despondent. Those whom offer their body as living sacrifice (Rom.12:2), follow wholeheartedly (Nu.32:12).

However, David was ruddy handsome (1 Sam 16:12). He was courageous, faithful, fighter, he killed a lion and a bear to save the sheep (1 Sam.16:11,17:34-36).

Man, after own heart:

Pleasing to the heart, Gentleness and not doing things which will hurt, humble and simple. Corrective and doing the desire of the person. Longing to see the face and to know the love. Sacrifice and doing the things as per the wish of a person whom we love so much.

Even today, God is worried and is displeased about that “no one to intervene” (Is.59:16). Ps.14:2 “The Lord looks down from heaven on humankind to see if there are any who are wise, who seek after God’. We read in Rm. 3:10-12 that “there is no one who is righteous, not even one; there is no one who has understanding, no one seeks God. All have turned aside, together they have become worthless”.

Mt.22:14 Many are called and few are chosen. Israel was Chosen (Dt.7:7). Paul was God’s chosen vessel (Ac.9:15). You and I were chosen by Jesus according to his predestined will and purpose (Jn.15:16).

Where are you now? Can God fix you, and trust you? Can God use you for his purpose? Are you acceptable in the sight of God (Rm.12:1-2)? If you are chosen, Praise the Lord.

Blessings of Chosen by God:

Grants Justice: In Lk.18:7 we read “he grants justice to his chosen ones”. Are you mistreated and robbed of your justice? God will do the right thing at the right time.

Staff Sprouts: In Nu.17:5 God said “the staff of the man whom I choose shall sprout”. Staff means stick, stem of an almond tree. Now what is your staff which is not sprouting, not budding and not producing blossoms. It is nothing but our job, our life, our business, our health.

Descendants Spared: In 1 ki.11:34-I have chosen David and because of him, I will spare Solomon and his descendants Rehoboam to the end. I made covenant with him (Ps. 89:3).
