God's Vindication (Psalm 26)
Contributed by I. Grant Spong on Jan 17, 2026 (message contributor)
Summary: Who vindicates us from wrong?
Justice is not always found in this world, yet is there someone who will give us complete justice in His time? Let’s begin in Psalm 26.
When we are falsely accused, rather than retaliate, do we bring the matter to God for vindication?
Vindicate me, O Lord, For I have walked in my integrity. I have also trusted in the Lord; I shall not slip. Examine me, O Lord, and prove me; Try my mind and my heart. For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes, And I have walked in Your truth. I have not sat with idolatrous mortals, Nor will I go in with hypocrites. I have hated the assembly of evildoers, And will not sit with the wicked. (Ps 26:1-5 NKJV)
Is focusing on thanksgiving to God a healthier reaction than fretting?
I wash my hands to declare my innocence. I come to your altar, O Lord, singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders. I love your sanctuary, Lord, the place where your glorious presence dwells. (Ps 26:6-8 NLT)
Though Jesus taught us not to judge in a condemning manner, did He teach us to judge in a discerning manner who acts like a dog, a pig or who is a false prophet (Mat 7)? Must we therefore judge who we want to gather with socially?
Don’t gather my soul with sinners, nor my life with bloodthirsty men in whose hands is wickedness; their right hand is full of bribes. But as for me, I will walk in my integrity. Redeem me, and be merciful to me. My foot stands in an even place. In the congregations I will bless Yahweh. (Ps 26:9-12 WEB)
Rather than take vengeance ourselves, who should we leave justice to?
Don’t try to get revenge for yourselves, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath. It is written, Revenge belongs to me; I will pay it back, says the Lord. (Rom 12:19 CEB)
Justice is not always found in this world, yet is there someone who will give us complete justice in His time? You decide!
