Summary: Does God deliver?

Who will deliver us when everything else fails? Who will give us true justice? When we suffer do we make threats or have faith in God? Let’s look at Psalm 7.

In whom do we take refuge, a political party, a military, science, doctors, money, friends or family? What happens when all those things eventually fail us?

Lord my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me, or they will tear me apart like a lion and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me. (Ps 7:1-2 NIV)

Did the Psalmist have faith that if God did not rescue him, he deserved punishment?

O Lord my God, if I have done this: If there is iniquity in my hands, If I have repaid evil to him who was at peace with me, Or have plundered my enemy without cause, Let the enemy pursue me and overtake me; Yes, let him trample my life to the earth, And lay my honor in the dust. Selah (Ps 7:3-5 NKJV)

Do we have the confidence of David that we have lived right, and that God will defend us?

Arise, O Lord, in anger! Stand up against the fury of my enemies! Wake up, my God, and bring justice! Gather the nations before you. Rule over them from on high. The Lord judges the nations. Declare me righteous, O Lord, for I am innocent, O Most High! End the evil of those who are wicked, and defend the righteous. For you look deep within the mind and heart, O righteous God. (Psalm 7:6-9 NLT)

Do we have that confidence in God that he saves the repentant?

My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. God is a righteous judge, yes, a God who has indignation every day. If a man doesn’t repent, he will sharpen his sword; he has bent and strung his bow. He has also prepared for himself the instruments of death. He makes ready his flaming arrows. (Ps 7:10-13 WEB)

Do the wicked fall into the pit they dig to trap others? Do we thank the Lord for His righteousness?

But look how the wicked hatch evil, conceive trouble, give birth to lies! They make a pit, dig it all out, and then fall right into the hole that they’ve made! The trouble they cause will come back on their own heads; the violence they commit will come down on their own skulls. But I will thank the Lord for his righteousness; I will sing praises to the name of the Lord Most High. (Ps 7:14-17 CEB)

Did David mirror Jesus because he had faith in God, who judges fairly?

Christ did not sin or ever tell a lie. Although he was abused, he never tried to get even. And when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he had faith in God, who judges fairly. (1 Pet 2:22-23 CEV)

Who will deliver us when everything else fails? Who will give us true justice? When we suffer do we make threats or have faith in God? You decide!
