Introduction: Gripping the Heart

Imagine you are standing in a courtroom. The judge is seated, the jury is watching, and the question being asked is: Who is Jesus? Was He just a good teacher? A revolutionary? Or is He truly the Lord and Saviour of the world? Today, I want us to step into that courtroom of truth and examine the evidence that demands a verdict.

This is not just a theological debate; it is the most important question you will ever answer because your eternity depends on it. If Jesus is who He said He is—Lord and Saviour—then everything changes. Your priorities, your hope, your destiny.

Philippians 2:9–11 (NLT): "Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honour and gave him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."

Paul wrote these words from prison, reminding the Philippians that Jesus humbled Himself, became obedient to death—even death on a cross—and now is exalted as Lord over all. The Greek word for "Lord" here is Kyrios, meaning sovereign ruler, master, the One with ultimate authority.

This is not a future possibility—it is a present reality. One day, every knee will bow—voluntarily or forcibly—and every tongue will confess the truth: Jesus Christ is Lord.

Point 1: The Evidence of Prophecy Fulfilled

Isaiah 53:5–6 (NLT): "But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all."

Isaiah wrote these words roughly 700 years before Christ was born. The Hebrew word for "pierced" (chalal) speaks of fatal wounding. This prophecy describes crucifixion long before it was historically practised.

Prophecy is God's fingerprint in history. Over 300 prophecies were fulfilled in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. If you struggle with doubt, look at the evidence: history itself bows to Him.

John Piper said: "Christ didn’t die to make good people better; He died to make dead people alive."

This reminds us that prophecy wasn't fulfilled so we could have a nice religion; it was fulfilled so that the dead could live. The evidence points to a Saviour who came to bring us from death to life.

Think of a jigsaw puzzle with 300 pieces scattered on a table. Each prophecy is a piece. Individually, they may seem random, but when you place them together, the face of Jesus Christ emerges clearly. This is not coincidence; it is divine orchestration.

Point 2: The Evidence of the Empty Tomb

Luke 24:5–6 (NLT): "The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, ‘Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee…’"

The resurrection is the cornerstone of the Christian faith. The Greek word egeiro means to awaken or raise from the dead. The empty tomb was publicly known; Roman guards were posted to prevent tampering, yet the body was never found.

Every religion has a tomb; only Christianity has an empty one. The resurrection proves that Jesus is not only Saviour—He is Lord over life and death. This means He is Lord over your fears, your failures, your future.

Tim Keller wrote: "If Jesus rose from the dead, then you have to accept all that He said; if He didn’t rise from the dead, then why worry about any of what He said?"

This forces us to face reality: you cannot remain neutral about Jesus. Either He is risen and Lord, or He is a liar.

A man once bought an expensive watch online. When it arrived, it looked authentic, but it didn’t work—it was a counterfeit. The resurrection is the authenticity seal of the Gospel. Without it, Christianity would be a fake religion. With it, it is the true hope of the world.

Point 3: The Evidence of Transformed Lives

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT): "This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!"

Paul writes to a church in Corinth filled with former idolaters, adulterers, liars, and thieves. The Greek word for "new" (kainos) means a completely new creation, not just a renovation.

Look at the disciples: fearful fishermen became fearless proclaimers. Look at church history: murderers, addicts, atheists, have been transformed by the living Christ. Look at your own life—if you are in Christ, the evidence is your transformation.
