Go! And Never Forget the Life-Giving Word - Psalm 119:93 (NLT)

Introduction:

It’s always a joy and privilege to open God’s Word together. Today, we continue our “Go! And…” series, looking at the divine call to action in the lives of God’s people.

Our focus today is just one verse — a small verse, but packed with power and promise:

Psalm 119:93 (NLT): “I will never forget your commandments, for by them you give me life.”

This is more than poetry — it’s a testimony. It’s a commitment. It’s a declaration of hope.

This verse invites us to reflect on the life-giving power of God's Word. It calls us to go — and never forget the commandments of the Lord because they bring life, hope, and strength in every season.

1. The Word of God Must Not Be Forgotten

“I will never forget…”

Forgetting can be easy — we forget birthdays, we forget passwords, and sometimes we even forget where we put our phone when it’s in our hand!

But when the psalmist says, “I will never forget your commandments,” he’s not speaking of absent-mindedness — he’s declaring his determined focus.

Forgetfulness is Dangerous Spiritually

Israel’s history was full of forgetfulness. In the wilderness, they forgot how God delivered them.

In Judges, each generation forgot the Lord and turned to idols.

Forgetting God's Word leads to spiritual decline, compromise, and rebellion.

In a world full of distractions, entertainment, and endless scrolling, we must be intentional in remembering — actively meditating on, and living by God’s Word. This isn’t about memorising out of duty — it’s about treasuring His truth because it sustains us.

The Compass

Imagine being lost in the woods without a compass. A compass doesn’t entertain you — it guides you. God’s Word is our spiritual compass. To forget it is to lose direction. To remember it is to stay on course with Christ.

2. The Word of God Is Life-Giving

“…for by them you give me life.”

God’s commandments are not restrictions meant to crush us — they’re revelations meant to revive us. Every command reflects the character of the Giver — holy, good, and loving.

Three Ways the Word Gives Life:

a. Spiritually (Salvation)

Romans 10:17 (NLT): “So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.”

The Word reveals our need for a Saviour and points us to Jesus. God’s greatest commandment is fulfilled in Christ, and it is through faith in Him alone that we are born again.

b. Emotionally (Hope in Trials)

Psalm 119:50 (NLT): “Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.”

The Word brings peace in pain, hope in hardship, and strength when we are weak.

c. Practically (Wisdom in Life)

Psalm 119:105 (NLT): “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”

God's Word provides direction for daily living — how to love, forgive, work, rest, and worship.

Life Raft at Sea

Picture someone lost at sea. Waves all around. No food. No anchor. Then a rescue team throws a life raft. That’s what the Word is — not a decoration for our shelf, but a rescue raft for our soul.

3. The Word of God Must Be Treasured Daily (7 minutes)

Not Just Read — Remembered and Lived

Psalm 119 isn’t just about reading Scripture. It’s about loving it, meditating on it, and obeying it.

The psalmist uses verbs like:

Delight (v.92)

Meditate (v.97)

Obey (v.100)

Practical Ways to Treasure the Word:

Daily Reading Plan — Even 10 minutes a day builds strong spiritual habits.

Memorise a Verse Weekly — Let the Word dwell in your heart.

Pray the Word — Turn verses into prayers.

Speak the Word — Encourage others with Scripture.

Charging Your Phone vs. Feeding Your Soul

Most people don’t go a day without charging their phone — yet how many go days without charging their spirit?

The Bible is not just a book — it is bread for the hungry, water for the thirsty, and life for the weary.

4. The Word of God Points Us to Jesus

Every command, every promise, every prophecy — points to Jesus.

John 1:1 (NLT): “In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Jesus is the living Word. And He fulfilled the commandments that we could not.

Psalm 119:93 ultimately echoes the Gospel:

“I will never forget your commandments, for by them you give me life.”

Jesus obeyed every command perfectly, and yet gave His life for those of us who have broken them. By His death and resurrection, He brings eternal life to all who repent and believe.

Conclusion & Gospel Invitation
