Go! And Live Fully in Christ - Colossians 2:9–10 (NLT)
Opening Prayer
Gracious Heavenly Father,
We thank You for the power of Your Word and the presence of Your Spirit. We thank You for Jesus—fully God, fully man, our Redeemer, and King. Speak to us now, Lord. Open our minds to truth, our hearts to grace, and our wills to obedience. May Christ be exalted and glorified in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Colossians 2:9–10 (NLT): “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”
Introduction: Are You Living Fully?
Many people today feel empty. Despite full calendars, full bank accounts, full wardrobes—they feel hollow inside. The world promises fulfilment, but it delivers fleeting moments and lasting emptiness.
The Apostle Paul, writing to believers in Colossae, points us to the only true source of fullness—Jesus Christ. In Him, we are made complete. That’s not just theology—it’s a life-transforming reality.
Today, we focus on this truth: Go! And live fully in Christ.
Point 1: In Christ, the Fullness of God Dwells
Colossians 2:9 (NLT): “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.”
Paul is countering false teaching in Colossae that claimed spiritual fulfilment could be found through mysticism, rituals, or secret knowledge. But Paul brings the focus back to Jesus.
The word “fullness” is p????µa (pleroma) — meaning the total sum, the entirety, nothing lacking.
“Lives” is ?at????? (katoikeo) — to dwell permanently, not temporarily.
Jesus isn’t partially God—He is fully God. Every attribute of God—power, love, holiness, justice—lives bodily in Christ.
John 1:14 (NLT): “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness...”
Jesus is not a shadow of God—He is God made flesh. This is the wonder of the Incarnation.
Charles Stanley said: “Jesus is the visible expression of the invisible God. If you want to know what God is like, look at Jesus.”
As your pastor, I echo that with joy—don’t look for God in mysticism or rituals. Look at Jesus!
Point 2: In Christ, We Are Made Complete
Colossians 2:10a (NLT): “So you also are complete through your union with Christ...”
Paul moves from who Jesus is to who we are in Him. Because all the fullness of God dwells in Christ—and we are united with Him—we are complete.
“Complete” is pep????µ???? (pepleromenoi) — meaning fully filled, fully supplied, brought to full measure.
In Christ, you lack nothing. Not for salvation. Not for sanctification. Not for spiritual growth.
2 Peter 1:3 (NLT): “By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life.”
You don’t need Jesus plus something else. You need Jesus—only Jesus.
John Piper wrote: “Christ is not a stepping-stone to something greater. He is the greatest treasure.”
Amen! In Christ, you don’t move on—you move deeper.
Point 3: Christ Is Supreme Over All
Colossians 2:10b (NLT): “...who is the head over every ruler and authority.”
Paul reminds the church that Jesus isn’t just their Saviour—He’s Supreme Lord over all spiritual and earthly powers.
Philippians 2:9–11 (NLT): “Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honour... that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow...”
Christ has all authority—not Caesar, not demons, not ideologies, not governments. Jesus is Lord.
R.T. Kendall said: “If Jesus is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all.”
Church, our lives must reflect this truth. Christ’s lordship is not optional—it’s essential.
The Leaky Cup
Imagine a man holding a cracked cup under a waterfall. He’s surrounded by abundance, but he walks away thirsty—because the vessel is broken.
That’s us without Christ. We try to be filled by life’s experiences, achievements, and possessions, but we’re spiritually cracked by sin. Only when Christ restores us can we be filled.
The Missing Puzzle Piece
A woman searched her house frantically for one final puzzle piece. Without it, the picture remained incomplete.
Friend, without Christ, you remain incomplete. He is not a piece of your life—He is the centre of the whole puzzle.
The Gospel Message: Jesus, Our Completeness
Humanity is born in sin—separated from God, spiritually empty. But Jesus, fully God and fully man, came to rescue us.
He lived sinlessly.
He died sacrificially—on the cross, for your sins and mine.
He was buried—and on the third day, He rose in victory.
He ascended and reigns as Lord of all.
In Him, your sins are forgiven. In Him, you are justified. In Him, you are complete.
Call to Action: Walk in the Fullness of Christ
Colossians 2:6–7 (NLT): “And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him…”
