Summary: A path for revival in the church.

12-27-03 Get Over It And Get On With It

Text: Zechariah 8: 1-15

What a time of revival in the land! The people being restored.

It was the time for the rebuilding of the Temple as the remnant returned.

Zechariah saw the sinfulness and religious indifference of the people.

His prophecy aided in the rebuilding of the Temple.

His message was relevant to the people of that day and also of today.

He spoke of the past failures of Judah and Israel.

He speaks of the captivity, and the return to Jerusalem. The message to the people though is one that is summed up by the Apostle Paul

(Philippians 3:13-14) Brethren I count not myself to have apprehended:

But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and

Reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the

Mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.)

In plain speech Paul is telling the Philippians as Zechariah told the people of Judah “GET OVER IT, AND GET ON WITH IT”

As we continue the text we will see how God purposed they (we) do that.

B. Going behind backs. ( treachery)

C. Forming alliances against your neighbor. ( Survivor)

D. We are to build up not tear down. (Romans 14:19)

III. Love not false oaths. V. 17

A. Promises, promises.

1. Made all the time. To God, to each other.

2. Don’t make them if you won’t keep them. (reason v. excuse)

B. It is better not to vow, than to vow and not pay. (Ecc. 5:5)

C. Don’t try to impress or draw attention with your vows.

Close:

This year has come to an end.

A lot of things have happened to encourage God’s people.

The same was true in Zechariah’s time. (return to Jerusalem)

But many things have come that have served only to defeat.

The same for Judah. ( enemies, slow rebuilding, discouragement)

God says there is a time coming for revival. People that are afar off will come and rebuild His house. (Zech. 6:15)

The time is now. Forget what is behind it’s past. (ALL)

Reach for what is before it’s there.

God is ready are you?
