Summary: We live in perilous times. Seldom do we acknowledge how important our words are? Healthy families and healthy churches keep the communication lines open. Danger lies ahead when we we forget to communicate.

FORGET NOT TO COMMUNICATE--- THE POWER OF WORDS.

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

Text:

Hebrews 13:16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Never forget HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE.

SEEMS FEW REALIZE THERE IS POWER IN THE SPOKEN WORD.

Genesis 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

THE POWER OF WORDS CAN BE CREATIVE OR DESTRUCTIVE.

Let us understand conjunctions. Conjunctions are words that connect or join together clauses or

phrases: and, but, or. This verse uses the conjunction and… both powers are RESIDING or INHERENT

In your tongue.

Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

THE MOST DANGEROUS THING IN THE WORLD?

I was teaching the sixth grade at Rose Hill Elementary School. We were studying the USSR. At the end of the lesson Tammy Long came up to me and asked: MR. HUGHES what is the most dangerous thing in the world? It was Friday afternoon I said: Tammy let me think about that and tell you Monday.

All weekend I thought: knife, guns, bombs, atomic and nuclear. Wow. I found the answer. THE TONGUE.

James 3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

THE TRIANGULATION POWER OF THE TONGUE.

Matthew 18:15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.

It takes 3 people to allow PAINFUL COMMUNICATION. Jesus told us if you have a problem go directly and communicate with that person.

Today, I ponder how the lack of communication skills will destroy many homes and churches. Communication goes beyond words, spoken or written. There is body language, cold shoulders, signals, behavior, reactions, and feelings that come into play.

We hear of a generation gap or a gender gap, while this may be true, --- it is most often a communication gap. Often we let emotions and feelings come into play and then we develop "FROZEN COMMUNICATION LINES."

The home or church can become a place of cold words, because someone has become uncomfortable or distant. This lacking of warmth becomes apparent to many. So there becomes a tendency to become detached or indifferent and bitter. I do not want to die in a cold freezer, nor do I want to be a little light in a big refrigerator.

The lack of communication tends to make the home or church stale and hearts are often neglected, because of the lack of communication. Some can tend to "leave others out in the cold," to deprive of benefits given to

others, and cliques, small exclusive groups will develop.

Some time back God gave me a simple sermon, on words that will change the home and the church. I thought it would be great words, like salvation, justification, sanctification, etc. These are important words, but we must practice some simple but loving words.

I was with a family at the hospital, one is near death in the family. The dying one told another, I LOVE YOU! The one went out in the hall crying and said, I have waited all my life to hear those three words. He has never

ever told any of us he loved us. The dying one just assumed they knew he loved them. They did, but tears flowed when I LOVE YOU was spoken. How sad to wait until the death bed.

Try saying these little phrases every day of your life, I am going to work on it.

SOMETIMES A WHISPERED WORD IS HEARD BETTER THAN A SCREAMED, MEAN WORD.

WE MUST DEVELOP BETTER COMMUNICATION SKILLS.

Proverbs 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

PROVERBS 18:21: Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they

that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS TEST: TRY SAYING EACH OF THESE 3 TIMES DAILY FOR A MONTH. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. TRY IT, YOU MIGHT LIKE IT. YOU MIGHT MAKE A FRIEND HAPPY? YOU MIGHT MAKE YOURSELF HAPPY?

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

PRACTICE THESE COMMUNICATION PHRASES OFTEN: ( I have written on large cards.)

1. I love you!

2. Thank you!

3. Please

4. I am wrong...

5. I FORGIVE YOU...

6. I AM SORRY...

7. YOU DID A GOOD JOB...

8. YOU CAN DO IT...

9. HERE, LET ME ...

10. I AM PROUD OF YOU...
