Summary: Truth Sets Us Free.

Free Because Of The Truth!!!

Text: John 8:31-32, 34

(I Was All Tied Up With Ropes)

Well as you can see I’m a little tied up this morning and so I have to make a few adjustments to get through the morning.

I really can’t get up the stairs right now and I’m going to need a little help with my sermon this morning. I need a youth volunteer to come and sit in the front row and hold my sermon notes for me.

I’ve entitled this message Truth Is Freeing

I. Sin Will Bind Us Up

Vs. 34 Everyone who sins is a slave to sin.

There are things that make their way into our lives that tie us up, put us into bondage.

Things like relationships anger unforgiveness habits rebellion gossip fear control unwise behavior lack of financial control and lying can put us into bondage

They are very inhibiting and they interrupt normal function.

Just like being tied up with these ropes. I am very inhibited this morning. These ropes have really interrupted my normal function.

Right now I can’t even go up the stairs on the platform.

But there is fabulous hope inside of Christianity for all who have believed Him.

II. The Truth Grants Freedom

John 8: 31To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

That is a fabulous promise.

First application of this promise is that we are set free from the sin that we were bound by before Christ is .

But there is an ongoing application of that promise.

If we hold to His teaching

Here’s how we experience that freedom.

We have to have very strong relationship to His word.

Psalms 119: 9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. 10 I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. 11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.

That’s freedom because of our relationship to His word. This relationship will bear an important fruit.

Because of our relationship to Him through His word there are many bondages that will never take hold in our lives.

But if anything does we can find freedom through the promises of His Word.

John 8: 32Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."

And every time one of those strongholds is broken there is freedom.

***UNTIE ROPES***

Walk Up On Stage

When you get that freedom you may find that you didn’t even realize how impaired or interrupted you were.

And it all springs from our relationship to His word.

Deuteronomy 6: 24 The LORD commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the LORD our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today. 25 And if we are careful to obey all this law before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness."
