Summary: Son of God, Son of Man, Son of David, Son of Promise

Intro: Jesus Christ revealed Himself to us in four distinct roles while living 33 years in this world. He was the Son of God, deity, divine, holy, Alpha and Omega. He was Son of Man, He came in the flesh, He was tempted in every way like us, yet without sin. Son of David-He would be the one to fulfill God’s promise to David that someone with his lineage would sit on God’s throne forever. Son of Abraham- his seed would bless the world.

Four Revelations of Jesus Christ

I. Son of God--His Rank-Diety

Hebrews 1:1-4 gives us the role of Jesus Christ in the world. In times past prophets spoke to this world, but now God’s very own Son would speak to this world.

Sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high

Some said, "He was a prophet, or a great teacher, but Peter declared, you are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

II. Son of Man-His Humanity

John said if any one says that Jesus has not come in the flesh, it is an anti-Christ spirit.

This was the favorite title Jesus used while he taught the multitude. It made it clear, I am one of you, even though I am God, I will experience everything as a Man.

Hebrews 2:6-9

to taste death for every man- v.9

be touched with the feelings of our infirmities- 4:14-16

give access to God’s throne--v.16

endure the cross--12:2

III. Son of David--His Rule

(Matthew’s Genealogies) 1:17--From Abraham to David 14 generations, from David to the carrying into Babylon 14 generations, from the carrying into Babylon to Christ,

14 generations.

Another important title of Jesus Christ was Son of David. He would be the heir to the throne, who would sit on the throne forever as God had promised him.

Hebrews 2:8-9 all things are put in subjection under His feet, ascribes to the Lord the everlasting rule over the nations. Of His kingdom there will never be an end.

2 Samuel 7:16-thy house, thy kingdom, thy throne shall be established forever.

Some of my favorite verses in the Word of God is when people cried out for healing. They would cry, Jesus, Son of David, recognizing Him as Messiah, the one who would take David’s seat. Is it any wonder why the religious leaders protested so violently at the inscription on the cross, King of the Jews.

IV. Son of Abraham-Son of Promise

Matthews Genealogy from Abraham to Jesus Christ

When you read genealogies you wonder their importance. But Matthew made sure that the reader would realize Jesus is from the seed of Abraham.

Hebrews 2:16 says, He took hold of the seed of Abraham.

Jesus is the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham, that from his seed all the nations of the world would be blessed. Galatians 3:16--not to thy seeds, as of many, but to thy seed, which is Christ.

Hebrews 12:2-looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.

This is a Bible miracle that few truly realize. 42 generations after God made a promise to Abraham, it came to pass. 28 generations after God made a promise to David, it came to pass. Makes you want to hold onto the promises He has made to you.

close: He is the Son of God-- His rank

He is the Son of Man- His relationship

He is the Son of David- His rule

He is the Son of Abraham-Son of promise

and on top of everything else- He is now our High Priest after the order of Melchizadek, High Priest of God-who ever liveth to make intercession for us
