Encourage believers, regardless of their age, to focus on God's characteristics, serve Christ diligently, and live a godly life.
Good morning, family! We're gathered here today to dig deep into the Word of God, to understand how we can focus on God's characteristics, serve Christ as youth, and live a godly life. Our guide today is 1 Timothy 4.
You know, Billy Graham once said, "In character-building and in living the Christian life, concentration is important. The [person] who has a general interest in everything usually isn’t too good at anything." God has given us a road map for developing a character like His, and it's our duty as believers to follow it. It's never too early or late to start. Serving Christ shouldn't be seen as exclusive to a certain age bracket, but should be a lifelong commitment we make as soon as we accept Him as our Lord and Savior.
Let's look at 1 Timothy 4:
Focusing on God's characteristics is not just about knowing who God is, but it's about understanding His nature and allowing that understanding to shape our lives. The Bible is filled with descriptions of God's characteristics, and it's through these descriptions that we can get a glimpse of who God truly is.
His love: 1 John 4:8 tells us that "God is love." This isn't just a description of what God does, but it's a description of His very nature. God's love isn't like human love that often changes based on feelings or circumstances. God's love is unconditional, unchanging, and unfathomable. It's a love that sent His only Son to die on the cross for our sins. When we truly understand the depth of God's love, it changes how we interact with others. We become more patient, kind, and forgiving because we understand that this is how God interacts with us.
His holiness: 1 Peter 1:16 tells us that God is holy. This means that God is completely separate from sin. He is pure and perfect in every way. Understanding God's holiness helps us to see our own sinfulness and our need for a Savior. It also motivates us to strive for holiness in our own lives, not to earn God's love, but as a response to His love.
His faithfulness: Deuteronomy 7:9 tells us that "God is faithful, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments." God's faithfulness means that He always keeps His promises. He never fails, and He never changes. When we understand God's faithfulness, it gives us confidence in His promises. We can trust that He will always be there for us, no matter what we're going through.
His wisdom: Romans 11:33 says, "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!" God's wisdom is far beyond our understanding. He sees the big picture and knows the best path for us to take. When we understand God's wisdom, it helps us to trust Him, even when we don't understand what He's doing.
His sovereignty: Psalm 115:3 tells us that "Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him." God is in control of everything. Nothing happens without His knowledge or permission. When we understand God's sovereignty, it gives us peace, knowing that He is in control.
Allowing that knowledge to transform our lives: It's about striving to be more like Him in every aspect of our lives. It's about living in a way that reflects His love, holiness, faithfulness, wisdom, and sovereignty.
