Summary: How to prepare for the flaming darts that Satan and the world will hurl.

FIREPROOF YOUR LIFE

INTRODUCTION

We face many trials and temptations as we strive to live the Christian life. How can we fireproof our lives and be able to stand against the flames that this world will send our way? We’re going to look tonight at some biblical examples and see how we can fireproof our life.

I. Daniel—Standing for What is Right

Daniel 1:1-21

Distinguished himself as a young man in his devotion to God and was rewarded and blessed by God.

II. Joseph—Fleeing from Sin

Genesis 39:1-12

Sometimes we have to literally run away from sin. Alchohol, Drugs, Sex, Sexting, Pornography.

James 4:7 “Submit yourselves to God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.”

Sin is a very serious matter. It only takes one sin to separate us from God. Jesus talked about the seriousness of sin in Matthew 5:29-30: “If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.”

III. Timothy

Paul wrote to a young man named Timothy in order to prepare him for the ministry of being an evangelist.

I Timothy 4:11-16

I Timothy 6:11-16

2 Timothy 3: 10-17

IV. Conclusion

Two important things to do to fireproof your life: study the bible and pray. Daily study of God’s word helps us stay focused on him and his will for our lives. Prayer allows us to build a closer relationship with God. He wants us to share both our good times and bad times with him in prayer. James 4:7 states “Come near to God, and he will come near to you.”

We are not approaching God alone. We have a mediator, Jesus Christ, who lived on this earth, was tempted, felt all of the emotions that we feel. Hebrews 4:14-16

says, “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

We must also put on the full armor of God.

Ephesians 6:10-18

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
