Explores how to face fear with faith, standing firm in God's presence, and finding strength and peace in His promises.
Good morning, beloved congregation. Isn't it a joy to be here today, gathered together in the house of the Lord, ready to immerse ourselves in His word and wisdom? Today, we find ourselves on the cusp of an enlightening discourse, a discourse that will shed light on the profound depths of the book of Isaiah, specifically Isaiah 41:9-14.
Before we begin, let me share with you a quote from the esteemed Christian theologian, J.I. Packer. He once said, “Once you become aware that the main business that you are here for is to know God, most of life’s problems fall into place of their own accord.” This quote aligns seamlessly with our sermon today, as we seek to know God more, trust in His promises, and find peace in His presence, even as we face our fears.
As we turn to the Scriptures, let's read Isaiah 41:9-14 together:
"You whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, And called from its remotest parts And said to you, ‘You are My servant, I have chosen you and not rejected you. ‘Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ “Behold, all those who are angered at you will be shamed and dishonored; Those who contend with you will be as nothing and will perish. “You will seek those who quarrel with you, but will not find them, Those who war with you will be as nothing and non-existent. “For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand, Who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I am the one who helps you."
In this passage, we see the Lord's reassurance, His promise of strength, help, and upholding. We see His promise to be with us, to be our God. And in this promise, we see the antidote to fear.
So, how do we face fear with faith? How do we stay firm in God's presence? How do we feel fortified by God's promise? These are the questions we will be tackling today.
How do we do this?: How do we face fear with faith? It's not always easy. Fear can be powerful. It can make us feel weak and helpless. But God's promise is stronger. His presence is more powerful than any fear. We can trust in His promise and find strength in His presence.
Remember God's promise: He has said that He is with us. He has promised to strengthen us and help us. He has promised to uphold us with His righteous right hand. This is a promise that we can trust in. When we feel afraid, we can remember this promise. We can remind ourselves that God is with us. He is our strength and our help.
Trust in God's promise: Trust is not always easy. It requires faith. But faith is not something that we have to muster up on our own. It's a gift from God. We can ask God to increase our faith. We can ask Him to help us trust in His promise. When we trust in God's promise, we can face fear with faith.
Stand firm in God's presence: When we feel afraid, it's easy to run away. It's easy to try to hide from our fears. But God is calling us to stand firm. He is calling us to stand in His presence. When we stand in God's presence, we can find strength and peace. We can find the courage to face our fears.
Be fortified by God's promise: God's promise is not just a comforting thought. It's a powerful truth. It's a truth that can fortify us in times of fear. When we feel afraid, we can remind ourselves of God's promise. We can let this truth fortify us. We can let it give us the strength and courage to face our fears.
