Summary: The question isn’t: “Do you believe in God?” The real question is: “What will you do when believing costs you something?”

Faith in the Fire

INTRODUCTION — SETTING THE TENSION

Church, we are living in loud days. Everywhere you turn, somebody is shouting, telling you:

• what to believe

• who to fear

• who to blame

• which side to take

And if we’re honest, some of us are worn out!!! Not because we stopped believing in God, but because we’re trying to figure out how to live for Him in a world that feels like it’s on fire.

This isn’t a season where faith is easy… This is a season where faith is tested.

And the question isn’t:

“Do you believe in God?”

The real question is: “What will you do when believing costs, you something?”

That’s not a modern question…That’s a biblical one. Let's look at some scripture.

Daniel chapter 3 drops us into a moment where faith collides with culture…What I’m about to read isn’t about personal devotion…This is about public pressure.

Read Daniel 3:16-18 (lead into the scripture)

THE PRESSURE TO BOW (DANIEL 3)

Nebuchadnezzar builds a massive statue.

It’s impressive…It’s intimidating… It’s public… right there where everyone can see it.

And when the music plays, everyone bows. Not because they suddenly believe in this statue …

but because it’s easier than standing out.

I think we need to take note of something:

They weren’t told they had to stop worshiping God…They were just told God couldn’t be the only one.

That’s how compromise usually works.

“The enemy doesn’t always ask you to abandon your faith… he just asks you to dilute it a little.”

Bow a little…Blend in a little…Don’t make waves…Don’t stand out.

And suddenly………., faith becomes silent.

MODERN PRESSURE

You know Today the pressure doesn’t come with trumpets and statues.

It comes with:

• social expectations

• workplace silence

• family tension

• cultural exhaustion

The pressure we get today isn’t:

“Denounce God.”

It’s more like: “Just don’t take Him that seriously.”

And church when we do that … that’s still bowing… that’s still compromising. But….

FAITH DOESN’T PANIC (DANIEL 3:16)

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are brought before the king… And their response is stunning:

“We do not need to defend ourselves…”

No anger.

No speeches.

No insults.

Just calm conviction… “Faith doesn’t need to shout—because faith already knows who it serves.”

Some of us are exhausted because we think we have to argue our faith into existence.

But steady faith speaks louder than angry volume.

ANCHOR

Think about it this way… An anchor doesn’t calm the storm… It doesn’t stop the waves…

It doesn’t change the weather... An Anchor just keeps the ship from drifting.

“Faith isn’t the absence of chaos … Faith is what keeps you from drifting when chaos hits.”

I think God is telling us right now, don’t panic… Find Stability.

FAITH SAY’S ‘EVEN IF’ (DANIEL 3:17–18)

These young men Say… “Our God is able to deliver us… but even if He doesn't…we will never worship you…or your statue”

That’s not weak faith.

That’s mature faith.

They believed God could … and they were still trusting Him even if He didn’t.

(pause): “Faith that only works when God does what you want isn’t faith… it’s a contract.”

This is altar faith.

This is surrender faith.

This is faith that says:

“God, You are still God—even if the outcome isn’t what I prayed for.”

“In a fire, you don’t panic, you know why? Because panic gets people killed…

When you get woke up by the alarm at 2 in the morning… When you get on scene you don’t really think … you just react… You rely on your training…You trust your gear… and You stay connected to your team.”

“When the heat rises, you don’t rise to the occasion… you fall back on what’s already been formed in you.”

The fire didn’t create their faith… These young men already had the faith… The fire just

revealed it.

GOD MEETS US IN THE FIRE (DANIEL 3:24–25)

These young men are thrown in bound… the fire is so hot the ones that threw them in burned up…

The king looks in again… and asks, ‘Didn’t we throw three men into the fire?’

“Yes.” he was told… then the question of all questions

‘Then why do I see four?’

Don’t miss this… The fire didn’t remove God’s presence.

It revealed it. “Sometimes God doesn’t keep us out of the fire… Sometimes He meets us in it.”

Some of you may feel like:

“If God was with me, I wouldn’t be where I am right now.” But

Sometimes here is exactly where He is going to show Himself most clearly.

STEADFAST FAITH BECOMES WITNESS (DANIEL 3:28)

These young men never preached… They never defended themselves…They never attacked the culture.

God spoke for them. “There is no other god who can rescue in this way.”
