Introduction

Good morning, church family! I hope you're all feeling blessed today. I am excited to share a word from the Lord with you this morning. We're going to be talking about something that seems simple but holds so much depth and meaning - living by the law of Christ, sharing and caring for each other, and reaping the benefits of doing good.

I am reminded of a quote by Rick Warren, who once said: "God has a purpose behind every problem. He uses circumstances to develop our character. In fact, he depends more on circumstances to make us like Jesus than he depends on our reading the Bible." That's something to ponder on, isn't it?

Our Scripture reading today comes from Galatians 6. If you have your Bibles, or Bible apps, let's read together:

Let's open our hearts as we pray:

Dear Heavenly Father, we ask that you open our hearts and minds to the message you have for us today. Give us the courage to live by your law, to share and care for each other, and to persist in doing good, never growing weary. We trust in your promise, Lord, that in due time we will reap the harvest of our actions if we do not give up. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Living by the Law of Christ

Living by the law of Christ is a concept that demands our attention and understanding. It is not merely a set of rules or guidelines to follow, but rather a way of life that reflects our faith in Jesus Christ and our commitment to His teachings. It is an embodiment of the love, compassion, and humility that Christ demonstrated throughout His life and ministry.

John 13:34: The law of Christ, as mentioned in Galatians 6:2, is often interpreted as the commandment given by Jesus in John 13:34, where He says, "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." This is not a suggestion, but a commandment from our Savior. It is a call to action that requires us to extend love and kindness to others, just as Christ has done for us.

We are to be restorers and healers, not judges or condemners: When we encounter someone caught in sin, our role is not to cast stones but to gently restore them, always being mindful of our own vulnerabilities. It is about showing grace and mercy, just as Christ has shown us.

Carrying each other's burdens: This means being there for one another in times of trouble, offering support, comfort, and assistance. It means sharing in each other's struggles and helping to lighten the load. This is not always easy. It requires sacrifice, patience, and a willingness to put the needs of others before our own. But it is through these acts of love and service that we fulfill the law of Christ.

Requires us to be persistent in doing good: We are called to be steadfast in our efforts, not growing weary or losing heart. This is a challenge, especially when we don't see immediate results or when our efforts seem to go unnoticed. But we are reminded in Galatians 6:9 that in due time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. This is a promise from God, a reassurance that our efforts are not in vain.

A continuous journey: It is a daily decision to choose love over hate, forgiveness over resentment, and service over self-interest. It is a commitment to reflect the character of Christ in our thoughts, words, and actions.

We are not alone in this journey: We have the Holy Spirit to guide us, the Word of God to instruct us, and the community of believers to support us. We also have the perfect example of Christ, who lived out this law perfectly during His time on earth.

A transformative way of life: It reflects our faith and commitment to Jesus. It is about loving and serving others, being persistent in doing good, and trusting in God's promise of a harvest in due time. It is a journey that requires courage, humility, and perseverance, but it is a journey worth taking.
