EXTRAORDINARY GRACE
By Rev. Samuel Arimoro
Text: 2 Samuel 9:3-11
Supporting Text: Romans 9:15-16, Ephesians 2:8-9
INTRODUCTION:
Grace is the unmerited favour of God. It lifts the unqualified, beautifies the rejected, and establishes the forgotten. But when grace becomes extraordinary, it turns a lame beggar into a royal guest. Mephibosheth did nothing to deserve the king’s favour—he simply became a recipient of covenant-based, extraordinary grace.
POINT 1 – EXTRAORDINARY GRACE LOCATES THE FORGOTTEN
Mephibosheth was in Lodebar, a dry, desolate place. He was crippled, isolated, and forgotten. But grace located him where no one expected.
Illustration: God located Joseph in the prison and lifted him to the palace (Genesis 41:14–44).
POINT 2 – EXTRAORDINARY GRACE IS ROOTED IN COVENANT
David remembered his covenant with Jonathan and extended grace to his son. Grace works when there’s a covenant relationship—ours is through Christ.
Illustration: God remembered His covenant with Abraham and delivered Israel from bondage (Exodus 2:24–25).
POINT 3 – EXTRAORDINARY GRACE REVERSES SHAME
Mephibosheth was living in shame and obscurity, but grace restored him to honour. His condition didn’t change, but his position did.
Illustration: The woman with the issue of blood received honour where she once experienced shame (Mark 5:25–34).
POINT 4 – EXTRAORDINARY GRACE RESTORES LOST INHERITANCE
All that belonged to Saul was restored to Mephibosheth. Grace restores not just what you lost, but what your fathers lost before you.
Illustration: Naomi and Ruth experienced restoration of inheritance through divine grace (Ruth 4:13–17).
POINT 5 – EXTRAORDINARY GRACE CHANGES STATUS PERMANENTLY
Mephibosheth began to dine continually at the king’s table. Grace didn't just give him a moment of favour—it gave him a lifetime status.
Illustration: Esther moved from orphan to queen and never returned to obscurity (Esther 2:17).
CONCLUSION:
Extraordinary grace doesn’t ask for your qualifications—it only looks at God’s mercy and covenant. If you are in Christ, you have access to a grace that can transform your story overnight.
ALTAR CALL:
If you want to experience the extraordinary grace of God, begin by surrendering to Jesus Christ. Say:
"Lord Jesus, I confess I am a sinner. I believe You died for me and rose again. Forgive me, cleanse me, and make me Yours. I receive Your grace today. Amen."
PRAYER POINTS:
1. Father, thank You for the gift of grace through Jesus Christ.
2. Lord, let Your grace locate me where life has hidden me.
3. Father, by Your covenant, show me unusual mercy.
4. Lord, let grace restore every lost opportunity in my life.
5. Father, make me a living example of Your extraordinary grace.
