INTRODUCTION:
Dominion is God’s original agenda for man from creation. When God made man in His own image and likeness, He did not design him to be a victim of circumstances, but to be a ruler with authority over the works of His hands. This dominion mandate was given freely as part of God’s blessing upon humanity. However, sin interrupted this plan and subjected man to fear, bondage, and defeat. But in Christ Jesus, redemption has restored us to that position of dominion.
To be exempted for dominion means that while others may be subdued by oppression, sin, and satanic forces, the covenant child of God is preserved, lifted, and empowered to rule. Dominion is not just about surviving life’s battles; it is about reigning over them. It is not only about avoiding defeat but also about enforcing victory in every sphere of life.
This subject is particularly relevant in our time, because many live under the oppression of economic hardship, spiritual battles, family struggles, and societal pressures. Yet God assures His people that we are not designed to be victims of these forces but to live as overcomers. The covenant of exemption ensures that you will not end where others end, because God has set you apart for dominion.
1. GOD’S ORIGINAL MANDATE IS DOMINION
God created man to rule and not to be ruled. The dominion mandate is not man-made; it is God’s decree and blessing upon humanity. When you walk in the consciousness of this divine assignment, you begin to see yourself as exempted from failure and defeat.
a) Dominion is God’s design (Genesis 1:26)
God gave man rulership over creation as part of His eternal plan, meaning you are not permitted to live below His purpose.
b) Dominion is a blessing, not a struggle (Genesis 1:28)
It is a gift from God; man did not earn it but was empowered to walk in it by divine blessing.
c) Dominion means rulership and authority (Psalm 8:6)
You have been crowned with glory and honour to exercise authority in your world.
d) Dominion sets you apart from oppression (Luke 10:19)
Christ has exempted you from being a victim by granting you power over all the powers of the enemy.
Biblical Example: Joseph was a foreigner and prisoner in Egypt, yet God exempted him from limitation and elevated him to a place of dominion over a whole nation (Genesis 41:39-44).
2. THE BLOOD OF JESUS IS THE BASIS FOR DOMINION
The blood of Jesus is the covenant seal that exempts believers from destruction and positions them to reign. Without the blood, humanity remains under condemnation, but with the blood, dominion becomes our reality.
a) The blood grants victory over the enemy (Revelation 12:11)
Believers overcome Satan not by human strength but by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.
b) The blood cancels accusations (Colossians 2:14)
Every handwriting of ordinances that speaks against your dominion has been blotted out by the blood.
c) The blood exempts from judgment and destruction (Exodus 12:13)
While Egypt experienced calamity, Israel was preserved by the blood of the lamb.
d) The blood establishes believers as kings and priests (Revelation 5:10)
Through Christ’s blood, you are made to reign on earth in dominion.
Biblical Example: During the Passover in Egypt, the Israelites were exempted from the plague of death because the blood of the lamb was upon their doorposts (Exodus 12:21-23).
3. DOMINION OVER SIN AND THE FLESH
True dominion is not only about ruling over external circumstances but also about reigning over internal struggles. Sin is a robber of dominion, but in Christ, the power of sin and the flesh is broken.
a) Sin no longer has dominion over you (Romans 6:14)
Grace empowers you to live above sin and walk in righteousness.
b) The Spirit empowers dominion (Galatians 5:16)
By walking in the Spirit, you are exempted from fulfilling the lusts of the flesh.
c) Dominion requires discipline and consecration (1 Corinthians 9:27)
Self-control and holiness preserve your place of authority in Christ.
d) Dominion is sustained through sanctification (2 Timothy 2:21)
A sanctified vessel is set apart and fit for the Master’s use, walking in dominion.
Biblical Example: Daniel in Babylon lived a holy life of consecration and discipline, and as a result, he was set apart in excellence and dominion (Daniel 6:3-4).
4. DOMINION OVER POWERS AND PRINCIPALITIES
