Evangelism- Won by One Matthew 28:16-20NKJ
My mother was over the ladies missions Dept. in their church for years. Once she had a missionary that spent her whole ministry in China. She was faithful to her calling to- G0. After 30 years, she had faithfully won ‘one’ convert unto Christ and she became a real disciple. Was she successful?
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. 17 When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. 18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
That simple sentence in verse 17, But some doubted. That simple phrase is one of countless testimonies to the integrity of Scripture. The transparent honesty of a statement like this shows that Matthew wasn’t attempting to exclude, or cover up facts that might lesson the perfection of such a glorious moment.
Why place Stephens story of him doubting Christ? Why tell the truth of every disciple? Why tell the whole story of Judas? Why tell of Job?
Jesus was going up at any moment, and some of His disciples doubted. Listen to Matthew 28:16-20TM Meanwhile, the eleven disciples were on their way to Galilee, headed for the mountain Jesus had set for their reunion. The moment they saw him they worshiped him. Some, though, held back, not sure about worship, about risking themselves totally.18-20Jesus, undeterred, went right ahead and gave his charge: "God authorized and commanded me to commission you: Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you. I'll be with you as you do this, day after day after day, right up to the end of the age."
We’re here today because some worship, while others doubt. We’re here to express through our worship that Jesus is worthy! We’re here today to show by our actions, and our loving deeds that Jesus is worth everything!
We’re here today to be totally transparent without excluding anything to you that we aren’t perfect, neither are we worthy. Everything we are, and everything we do is because of Jesus.
*Jesus loves, Jesus saves, Jesus heals, Jesus delivers, Jesus gives peace, and Jesus brings profound Joy!
Many play it safe, by going through the motions of love, serving and even worship; however, can I proclaim the truth to you this morning. “Your social actions; you becoming a social butterfly isn’t worth anything if you can’t stand firmly for the Lord Jesus Christ!”
Matthew 28:18NLT Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
Absolute sovereign authority- Lordship over all- is given to Christ, “in heaven and on earth.”
However, right then, He transfers His authority over unto you through one simple word. GO!
John 3:35NKJ The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.
His next statement could have been anything; however, His next words; His next command- His call unto all is found in verse.
Matthew 28:19NLT Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The disciples were sent to make disciples of all nations. Jesus is saying, “that there is unlimited authority in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.”
Colossians 1:23NLT But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.
Mixing social issues with the gospel seems to be the way to go; however, most go headstrong into the social issues. It’s easier! (People like that.)
The Lord spoke this simple word to me to challenge you: “What if each of us made one disciple this year?”
Matthew 28:20NLT Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Getting ‘one’ saved, through your testimony is where you begin.
Salvation is the key! With salvation comes freedom through loving God and others. (These two coming alive will change everything!)
