Eternal life

Today I want to talk for a little while about the fact that we who are saved, are saved because of our believing and trusting in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savoir. He is not our Lord only but He is also our Savoir, if He is only our Lord then why do we call Him our Savior? We gratefully call Him our Savior because He has saved us from the wages of sin, and also from the wrath to come.

Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

1st. Thess. 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come. Notice; - which delivered us from the wrath to come- {pass tense} not going to deliver us, but already has.

I once heard a dear lady say that she didn’t believe any body could really know if they were saved are not until we get there. I personally believe that she is saved according to her testimony, but she’s been raised and fed bad doctrine all her life, she belongs to a denomination that teaches such as this.

Listen friends; let’s believe what the Bible says about it.

Can you picture a person living for the Lord for 40 or 50 years and then some how commit a great sin and then dying suddenly before they had time to repent of that sin, do you think God will really allow that person to go to hell?.

JN. 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned:

Could Jesus say that He never knew that person if in fact that person had at one time been saved but now that he or she has sinned their lost again and He never did know him?

Ø Jesus could never say to a person that’s been saved: “I never knew you”.

Matt.7:22-23 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. And lets notice here to that it’s not by doing many wonderful works.

Eph. 2:8-9 8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Listen dear heart, Jesus died one time for the sins of the whole world, all sins, passed, present and future and He’s not going to die over and over to pay for sins.

His death on the cross to pay the sin debt is a one-time happening, it was planned long before this world or any thing was ever created. Although He did pay for the sins of the whole world, that is, for every body in the world, the people of the world must receive His payment personally as their Substitute.

1st pt. 1:18-20 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed * with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation * received by tradition from your fathers;* 19But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 20Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world,--

Your sins and mine were paid for before we were ever born yonder on the cross as He died in our stead.

@@@@--1st pt.2: 24

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. {Were healed not going to be} that is, were healed from our damning sin.

>>>>being dead to sin--being dead to sin--being dead to sin<<<

This verse tells us that we that are saved are dead to sins.

A good illustration of being dead to sin is to think of the person out yonder buried in the graveyard, he’s as dead as he can be, and an atomic bomb could explode on top of his grave or even in his grave and it wouldn’t have the least bit of effect on him in any way, {why?} because he’d dead, it can bother him at all.

Rom 6:6-14 6Knowing this**, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.****{v.7}

*** 7For he that is dead is freed from sin. 8Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

9Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. 10For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.
