Don't Get Use To The Darkness

Introduction:

What do you think about all the mayhem in our world? As of January 1-November 28, 2016; the US statistics were as follows: 1,331 deaths due to domestic violence, 10,475 deaths due to gun violence, 30,814 deaths due to drunk driving, 38,984 deaths due to suicide, 22,790 deaths due to drug abuse, and 995,282 deaths due to abortion. It doesn’t matter how you view it; that’s a lot of bloodshed. America has become use to the darkness. Human hate, bigotry, pornography, sexual perversion, drug abuse, parental disrespect and exploitation of the poor are the themes of the day. There is no urgent outcry for prayer or a national awakening. Guilt is a pain that the arrogant never feels. The nation seems content with its morbid and iniquitous behavior. In our lesson tonight; Jesus foretold how things would be over 2000 years ago. How’s that for an accurate forecast! Only the people of God are truly aware of how dark this world really is. Those outside of Christ are blind and use to the darkness. They think that’s the way it should be; they have no sense of divine judgment. The text presents starling pictures of the world today. Note; it will be a time of prosperity, eating, drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, harvesting, and relaxing but totally oblivious to the perilous times in which we live. In other words; they will be doing the do; (the everyday same old) without thinking of the reckoning day. They were and will be as the young folk would say; “chillin.”

Prior to the Election, folk were pumped up but it seems like the political activist have fallen asleep again. Nothing has changed. The world is still in a moral upheaval.

Let’s see what the text teaches us:

I. Men will not Change Apart from Christ.

A. No new sins just new sinners. (Ecc. 1:9)

B. Life is without Christ is a merry-go-round. (Ecc. 1:9)

C. All men are sinners. (Rom. 3:23)

II. Christ will come in a Season Similar the Flood in Noah’s Day.

A. Humanity’s climate will be normal. (Matt. 24:37-38)

B. Wining and dining. (Matt. 24:37-38)

C. They will be unaware of the times. (Matt. 24-37-38)

III. Character Traits of Noah’s Day.

A. Violence will be prevalent. (Gen. 6:11)

B. Virtue will be forgotten. (Rom. 10:3)

C. Vision will be loss. (Gen. 6:5)

IV. The Suddenness of the End.

A. An Unexpected end. (Matt. 24:39)

B. Ignored preaching. (2 Peter 2:5)

C. Caught off-guard and off-God. (Matt. 24:39)

V. The Finality of the Unprepared.

A. Deluded. (Matt. 24:38)

B. Disappointed. (Matt. 24:39)

C. Destroyed. (Matt. 24:39)

VI. An Irrevocable End.

A. God welcome Noah. (Gen. 7:1)

B. God initiated the retribution. (Gen. 7:4)

C. God shut the saved in the unsaved out. (Gen. 7:16)

VII. What can we learn from Noah?

A. Noah worked against evil. (2 Pet. 2:5)

B. Noah walked without men. (Gen. 6:9)

C. Noah walked with God. (Gen. 6:9)

*Noah prepared for salvation…Preached to the lost….Protected his family…Pursued the Lord*

Conclusion: In the days of Noah; obedience saved 8 people while disobedience ended the world. What can we learn from this biblical reminder? Remember to walk with God now because in a flood; all roads are closed. Noah was the only one in his day that had flood insurance.
