Summary: Christians get into endless debates about free will, predestination, losing your salvation vs once-saved-always-saved, getting lost in the complexity of it all.

Quite often, discussions about theological issues boil down to one side pulling out their list of Scriptures proving their doctrine and the other side pulling out their list of Scriptures to prove their contrary doctrine, and most often, it is whoever has the most extensive list that wins.

For many, the subject of Predestination is a ‘closed fist’ doctrinal issue, which means they will often point the finger of indignant anger at those who disagree. There are absolutely essential doctrines in Christianity, but predestination is not one of them.

The doctrines of Predestination and free-will are complicated, and those on both sides tend to debate endlessly. In the church, there exists the belief that, before any humans were born, God picked out which of them would spend eternity with Him and which ones would end up in eternal conscious torment. Essentially, those whom God chose were saved before they were born, and those who were not end up suffering for eternity, with free will having zero effect.

THEOLOGY AND QUANTUM PHYSICS

Within the church, the mention of Quantum Physics seems eerie, complex, overwhelming, intimidating, or hard to understand when considering what the Bible teaches about Creation and the order of the Cosmos. However, after years of study, I truly believe that it is no threat to the orthodox teachings of the founding fathers of the faith and the authority of God’s written Word, the Bible.

The science of Quantum Mechanics is a branch of Physics that attempts to observe, calculate, measure, and understand the unpredictable behavior of matter (particles), light, and energy occurring at the atomic (nanoscopic) levels beginning within nuclei, atoms, and molecules of the micro-world within the present continuum of time, matter, and space. It is a complicated field of study which makes attempts to answer questions about the universe, while at the same time creating more questions than answers.

The Quantum world operates under dramatically different laws than the physical macro-world of conditions, events, and circumstances. It then attempts to break them down into their most basic forms at the sub-atomic level to discover how everything in the Cosmos has come into existence and what the source is where they were derived.

"By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen." (Hebrews 11:3 NLT)

Quantum Physics tells us that quanta particles, which are light particle wave packets, form atoms which form molecules, and molecules form objects. The force holding the quanta particles, atoms, and molecules together is LIGHT!

"Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. And God saw the light was good." (Genesis 1: 3-4, NLT)

Light was the first thing God made before all else. Light was essential to create these things since His design requires the light force to bind our particles together. Light keeps electrons tied to the nuclei of atoms, and atoms tied together to make molecules and objects.

Everything that we can see is made up of these unseen quanta particles that do not behave in ways that are known by the laws of physics, which makes them more of a series of probabilities than something that can be scientifically defined and observed.

“His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation. All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as he pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back his hand or say to him: ‘What have you done?'” (Daniel 3:34-35 NIV)

God does not travel through time at the same rate as human beings, yet He remains engaged with them through all of history. The timeless God entered into time with His created and continually works together with them to achieve His absolute and ultimate plan. The Quantum world opens up the understanding that there is no ‘before’ with God. God exists in the eternal ‘present,’ at the same moment then as now, and sees the past, present, and the future from the same point.

One of God’s attributes is that He is omnipresent, so He simultaneously is at every point in time as we understand it. He knows what every person on the planet will choose, but He still allows them to choose because He loves everyone individually.

The discoveries of Quantum Physics do not undercut the four foundational truths of the Reformation that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to the Scriptures alone. Quantum Physics has opened up the reality that God could know, even on multi-dimensional levels, everything that does or will happen as well as what a human being would freely choose if placed in any circumstance.

The study of Quantum Physics can help to bring clarity and understanding of the Creator’s sovereign knowledge of the future as well as His divine providence and predestination without hindering the free will of human beings. God is exponentially beyond human logic and understanding.

Craig, I took your invite to heart and reviewed your lesson: “Does God Alone Choose Who Gets To Heaven? - Thoughts On Predestination In A Quantum Universe.” What I learned from your dissertation: “Of Quantum Physics,” is everything, but how the “split the atom.” You spake nothing regarding the possibilities of the believers’ “falling from the grace of God, or their steadfastness in the faith,” Galatians 5:4; 2 Peter 3:17-18. You do not believe it is possible for the “Born-Again Christian,” to fall from grace or depart from the faith. Unfortunately, the bible says otherwise, 1 John 1:6-10; 1 John 2:1-2; 1 John 4:19-21. The believing “saint” can sin and become so depraved to the extent that they can “fall from grace,” “depart from the faith,” or “forsake their first love (Christ),” 1 Timothy 4:1-5; Revelation 2:4-5. Your position of the “Born-Again Christian" is, in truth: the teaching of Calvinism. I would leave you with this humble thought: “Focus more on Christ-Centered Preaching,” and leave the physics to the scientists and engineers. I thank you for your invitation to comment on this lesson. You might want to read and review my last posting, the sermon entitled: “God’s Plan For The Elect.” Stay in touch! In His Precious Name, Ron Freeman, Evangelist.

Brother Ron, I appreciate your reading my message on "... Predestination in a Quantum Universe." If you want to learn more about the subject I suggest you read my book, "The Quantum Love of God - Exploring the Multi-Dimensional Mysteries Of The Universe." I would recommend in the future that before you suggest to a person they are not focused on "Christ-Centered Preaching" that you read all of their messages on SC or, in my case, any of my 12 other books. Please note that the message I invited you to read was "Once Saved, Always Saved? What Happens When A Person Willingly Chooses To Lose Their Salvation." In response to your comments here, this message was not about the security of the Born-Again Christian. Nor is it Calvinistic by any means. Re: 1 John 1:6-10 - The thought starts at verse 5, reminding the reader that "God is light; in him there is no darkness at all," which means that light and darkness can't coexist in the same space. If a person claims "to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness," they "lie and do not live out the truth" because God, who promised never to leave or forsake the Born-Again Christian, was never in them to begin with. However, if they have His light within them, the blood of Jesus purified them from the consequences of sin and made them positionally holy. Re: 1 John 2:1-2 – Every human being on the planet is a sinner. The Born-Again Christian is a saved sinner, but still a sinner nonetheless. When they do sin, Jesus is their "advocate with the Father," who is the "atoning sacrifice" and the "the propitiation" for their "sins." The proof that a person knows Jesus and is Born-Again is if they "keep his commandments." Re: 1 John 4:19-21 – Those who claim "to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen." Re: 1 Tim 4:1-5 – The Bible is clear that some will abandon Christianity in the last days, just as some of the disciples abandoned Jesus at the beginning of His ministry. The fact that some people fall away from the faith does not mean that they were ever saved, but that they had professed to be Christians at some point in time. They knew about the Lord Jesus Christ and professed for a time to follow Him, but then they apostatized from the faith. As with anyone who "went out from" Jesus "were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us." (1 John 2:19-20) Re: Rev 2:4-5 - Nowhere is it said that the Ephesians fell from grace, departed the faith, or forsook their first love. They did let go of and sent away (ἀφίημι) the love they had at first and were asked to repent for doing that, or Jesus would remove the church as a light (λυχνία, ας, ἡ) of His love to draw the lost. The Bible explicitly says: "ANYONE who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother" (1 John 3:10, emphasis mine). "Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us." (1 John 3:24) Those who are Born-Again naturally stay (abide) in Jesus because they are a “healthy tree”. Obedience and holy living are the evidence of salvation because a good tree naturally produces good fruit and a bad tree naturally produces bad fruit, which is why Jesus will say to them, "depart from me, I NEVER knew you." The Born-Again Christian naturally and automatically produces good fruit that accompanies salvation (Matt 7:17-23). "No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God" (1 John 3:9, 5:4-5; Rev 3:5). They are heirs of the righteousness that comes from the faith of Jesus (Heb 11:7). Those genuinely Born-Again naturally turn away from unrighteousness because they have become justified and righteous in Christ and will never die (John 11:26). "Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are confident of better things in your case--things that accompany salvation." (Heb 6:9) "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." (Phil 1:6) The Bible says that those who walk, fall away, or leave the faith, were never with Jesus, and He NEVER knew them because they would have continued with Him (1 John 2:19). Those who are Born-Again will stand firm to the end, even in the face of persecution, because they are overcomers by trusting-faith in Jesus, who is in them, and is greater than he who is in the world (Matt 10:22; 24:12-13; Mark 13:13; Luke 10:19; 1 John 4:4, 5:3-5). They overcome the enemy "by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death" (Rev 12:11). Their names are written in the book of life "from the creation of the world," and they "will never" be taken out of it "(Rev 3:5). Blessings to you.
