Describing Isaiah’s Vision

Summary: Everyone who reads Isaiah's vision picturize the temple, throne and God based on their view of God. For some, the temple could be a small room, and the throne may be as simple as a chair with God seated on it. As a result, they rush past this verse as if it’s a short cartoon or simple setting.
Everyone who reads Isaiah's vision picturize the temple, throne and God based on their view of God. For some, the temple could be a small room, and the throne may be as simple as a chair with God seated on it. As a result, they rush past this verse as if it’s a short cartoon or simple setting. They have no idea or don't understand the intensity of this vision. Some see it as a gigantic throne surrounded by sparkling lights and majestic splendour. It all depends on your view of God, whether lofty or low. When we have a lofty view of God, the temple with the throne can be at least four stadiums in size, and the throne itself can be the size of 10 large houses. When Solomon's throne has six steps to climb imagine how many steps God’s throne might have.
The hem of God's robe filled the entire temple which means that God's greatness filled the entire temple. There was an ancient custom, when a king conquers another kingdom, a small garment of the defeated king is woven into the garment of the triumphant king. The larger a king's hem, the greater His glory and authority. If God's hem filled the entire temple, imagine how big the throne is and how great is God’s glory. In this vision we are staring at a fantastic and marvellous setting. If Isaiah went into great depth or detail explaining about God, the temple, and the seraphim’s, he could easily have written 10 books about this vision.
For example, describing Sri Krishna Dewaraya's court in Hampi is like describing a very small version of God's temple in this vision. Sri Krishna Dewaraya's palace's court and throne are filled with so many beautiful vessels, designs, and artwork that describing such magnificence would take at least a month. The temple of God is more magnificent than the court of Sri Krishna Devaraya. It has never seen precious materials or gems. The light is multi-colored, with never-before-seen colours. These colours are not found in the VIBGYOR spectrum. The fire is a consuming fire that burns the heart rather than the flesh. The seraphim are enormous beasts, roughly the size of ten persons.
Isaiah faced a challenge to describe the vision in human terms. He could be mapping never-before-seen precious stones, light, and majestic Glory to earthly precious gems such as gold, splendour, and so on. He described the vision from a human perspective so that we can understand the vision. However, it is an astonishing vision filled with lot of unseen or unheard gems, visuals, and magnificence. This vision is way beyond human comprehension. Describing every detail of God and his throne would easily fill 10 books - the colour of God's robe, the aroma around God, the density of God's presence, the weight of God's Glory, the voice of God which is like rushing waters and so on.
We don't know how long or how many days did Isaiah see this vision. Isaiah might have seen the vision for 5-6 days looking at the content, richness and magnificence of God’s temple. There is so much richness and content in God's visits, encounters, and seeing God seated on the throne that it may easily take a few days to see it completely. God’s throne is not a small chair with a small setting. It’s your view that is low, because of which you see a small chair. Your low view of God is blocking you from seeing who God truly is.
It all depends on your view of God. Is your view of God lofty or low? Ask God what is your view of Him. If it's low, ask him to give a view of who He truly Is! If we really get a view of who He truly Is - How much wonderful will our life be seeing God in all his majesty.
