Good morning, beloved family in Christ. It is indeed a joyous day to gather here, not by accident or coincidence, but by divine appointment. Isn't it wonderful how God's love draws us together to learn and grow in His Word? Today, we turn our hearts and minds to the book of Colossians, chapter 3, verses 1 to 4.
These verses are a treasure trove of spiritual insight, a divine invitation to live a life that is not only identified with Christ but also invincible through resurrection and immersed in heavenly-mindedness. These are not just words, dear friends. These are the very promises of God, promises that hold the power to transform our lives from the inside out.
When we think about our relationship with Christ, we must first consider the profound reality of our identification with Him. This is not a superficial association or a casual affiliation. It is a deep, life-altering identification that changes everything about who we are and how we live.
In the scripture, we read that if we have been raised with Christ, we should seek the things that are above. This speaks to the transformative power of our identification with Christ. When we are raised with Him, our priorities shift. Our focus changes. We no longer seek the things of this world, but the things that are above, where Christ is.
This shift in focus is a radical realignment of our entire being. We are no longer driven by worldly desires and ambitions. Instead, we are driven by a desire to know Christ and to make Him known. Our identity is no longer found in what we do, what we have, or what others think of us. Our identity is found in Christ.
This identification with Christ is ought not to be a passive process. It is an active, ongoing pursuit. We are called to set our minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. It requires us to continually renew our minds, to constantly redirect our thoughts towards Christ.
The world constantly bombards us with distractions and temptations. But as we continue to set our minds on Christ, we find that our desires begin to align with His. We begin to love what He loves and hate what He hates. We begin to see the world through His eyes.
This transformation is about changing our very nature. For we have died, and our life is now hidden with Christ in God. This means that our old self, with its sinful desires and habits, has been put to death. In its place, a new self has been raised, a self that is identified with Christ and empowered to live a life that is pleasing to God.
This new life is not a life of drudgery or duty. It is a life of joy and freedom. For when Christ, who is our life, appears, we also will appear with Him in glory. This is the glorious hope that fuels our transformation. This is the glorious reality of our identification with Christ.
