Confessions from the WORD of God.

What is the meaning of confession?

Confession is affirming something we believe. It is testifying to something we know. It is also witnessing for a truth that we have embraced as children of God.

Because we are created in God's image, we are to imitate Him in our everyday speech. When Jesus was here on earth He would always say words that are edifying. The book of Proverbs 6:2 records this about our words.

You are snared by the words of your mouth;

You are taken by the words of your mouth.

Another translation puts it this way

Then you are trapped

by your own words. - CEV

Jesus also said this about our words in Matthew 12:36 - 37

But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgement. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.

We need to watch what we say so that we will be justified and not condemned on the day of judgement.

This is important for us to understand. The Psalmist said this in Psalm 141:3 - "Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips."

Our words dominate us.

We are to speak words of faith only. Calling things that are not as though they are. God said so in Romans 4:17. Therefore, let's see some powerful scriptures that we can confess to ourselves on a daily basis.

Scriptures on salvation

Romans 10: 9 -10

That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

2 Timothy 1:9

Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.

John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Psalm 62:1

Truly my soul silently waits for God;

From Him comes my salvation.

Acts 13:47

I have set you as a light to the Gentiles,

That you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.

Scriptures on healing

Isaiah 53: 4 - 5

Surely He has borne our griefs

And carried our sorrows;

Yet we esteemed Him stricken,

Smitten by God, and afflicted.

But He was wounded for our transgressions,

He was bruised for our iniquities;

The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,

And by His stripes we are healed.

Exodus 15:26

And said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.

Jeremiah 17:14

Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed;

Save me, and I shall be saved,

For You are my praise.

3 John 2

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.

Psalm 30 : 2

O Lord my God, I cried out to You,

And You healed me.

Scriptures on strength

Psalm 46: 1 - 3

God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear,

Even though the earth be removed,

And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Though its waters roar and be troubled,

Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah

Nehemiah 8:10

Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Philippians 4: 13

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Isaiah 40 ;29

He gives power to the weak,

And to those who have no might He increases strength.

Psalm 28: 7 - 8

The Lord is my strength and my shield;

My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped;

Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,

And with my song I will praise Him.

The Lord is their strength,

And He is the saving refuge of His anointed.

Scriptures on fear

John 14:27

Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
