Ways the Holy Spirit Comes to Help Us in Our Time of Need

Romans 8:26,27 "But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance. In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will."

Tozer writes, "I have reason to suspect that many people are trying to give leadership in Christian circles today without ever having yielded to the wise and effective leading of the Holy Spirit. He truly is the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel and power. Knowledge and the reverence of the Lord. We are too heavily leaning on human talents and educated abilities. We forget the illumination of the Holy Spirit of God is a necessity, not only in our ministerial preparation, but in the administrative and leadership functions of our churches."

Begin to approach the throne of grace with this song in your heart this morning:

Come Holy Spirit I need you

Come in thine own gentle way,

Come as the rest to the weary,

Come fill me with joy today.

Come Holy spirit, I need you,

Come Holy Spirit, I pray,

Come in thy strength and thy power,

Come in thine own gentle way.

Come like the spring in the desert,

Come to this winner of souls,

Oh, let thy sweet healing power,

Touch me and make me whole.

Come Holy Spirit, I need thee,

Come Holy spirit, I pray,

Come with thy strength and thy power,

Come in thine own gentle way.

Come Holy Spirit I need you,

Come in thine own gentle way,

Come as the rest to the weary,

Come fill me with joy today.

Ways the Spirit Comes to Help Us:

1. Sovereignly Overrules to Bring About God’s Best Plan - Jer 29:11 says, "I know the plans I have for you declare the Lord. Plans for good and not for evil to give you a future and a hope.

2. Songs in the night - The Lord gives us songs in the darkest and dreary times of our life. He provides the encouragement that there is in Christ. (Phil. 2:2)

3. Strength - The Lord is the strength of my life. From whom then shall I be afraid. (Psa. 27:1,2)

4. Shield - The Lord is my strength and shield. My heart trusts in Him and we are glad, therefore we will leap for joy and give thanks to Him in song." (Psa 28:7)

5. Simplifies the complex issues of life - "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you can know what is the hope of your calling." (Eph. 1:17)

6. Solves Problems - He comes to the aid of those who are tempted. (I Cor. 10:13)

7. Suffering alleviator - He comforts us in all our affliction with the comfort we receive from God. (2 Cor 1:4)

8. Sings Praises to Buoy Us Up - "I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart. I will enter His courts with praise. I will say this is a day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice for He has made me glad." (Psa. 100)

9. Sanctifies Us - I pray God your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Thes. 5:24)

10. Second Coming Preparer - "The Lord will descend from heaven with a shout...Therefore, comfort one another with these words." (I Thes. 4)

11. Spiritual Growth Provider - "We all are changed from glory to glory just as by the Spirit of the Lord." (2 Cor. 3:18)

12. Shows us What to Do - "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." (John 14:26)

13. Supercedes All Others - The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." (John 3:8)

14. Service Director - Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. (I Cor 12:7)

15. Suffering Endurer - Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; 5in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; 6in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love. (2 Cor. 6:4-6)

16. Spiritual Intercessor - In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.
