Ways the Holy Spirit Comes to Help Us in Our Time of Need
Romans 8:26,27 "But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait with endurance. In the same way, the Spirit too comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit itself intercedes with inexpressible groanings. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will."
Tozer writes, "I have reason to suspect that many people are trying to give leadership in Christian circles today without ever having yielded to the wise and effective leading of the Holy Spirit. He truly is the Spirit of wisdom, understanding, counsel and power. Knowledge and the reverence of the Lord. We are too heavily leaning on human talents and educated abilities. We forget the illumination of the Holy Spirit of God is a necessity, not only in our ministerial preparation, but in the administrative and leadership functions of our churches."
Begin to approach the throne of grace with this song in your heart this morning:
Come Holy Spirit I need you
Come in thine own gentle way,
Come as the rest to the weary,
Come fill me with joy today.
Come Holy spirit, I need you,
Come Holy Spirit, I pray,
Come in thy strength and thy power,
Come in thine own gentle way.
Come like the spring in the desert,
Come to this winner of souls,
Oh, let thy sweet healing power,
Touch me and make me whole.
Come Holy Spirit, I need thee,
Come Holy spirit, I pray,
Come with thy strength and thy power,
Come in thine own gentle way.
Come Holy Spirit I need you,
Come in thine own gentle way,
Come as the rest to the weary,
Come fill me with joy today.
Ways the Spirit Comes to Help Us:
1. Sovereignly Overrules to Bring About God’s Best Plan - Jer 29:11 says, "I know the plans I have for you declare the Lord. Plans for good and not for evil to give you a future and a hope.
2. Songs in the night - The Lord gives us songs in the darkest and dreary times of our life. He provides the encouragement that there is in Christ. (Phil. 2:2)
3. Strength - The Lord is the strength of my life. From whom then shall I be afraid. (Psa. 27:1,2)
4. Shield - The Lord is my strength and shield. My heart trusts in Him and we are glad, therefore we will leap for joy and give thanks to Him in song." (Psa 28:7)
5. Simplifies the complex issues of life - "I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you can know what is the hope of your calling." (Eph. 1:17)
6. Solves Problems - He comes to the aid of those who are tempted. (I Cor. 10:13)
7. Suffering alleviator - He comforts us in all our affliction with the comfort we receive from God. (2 Cor 1:4)
8. Sings Praises to Buoy Us Up - "I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart. I will enter His courts with praise. I will say this is a day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice for He has made me glad." (Psa. 100)
9. Sanctifies Us - I pray God your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Thes. 5:24)
10. Second Coming Preparer - "The Lord will descend from heaven with a shout...Therefore, comfort one another with these words." (I Thes. 4)
11. Spiritual Growth Provider - "We all are changed from glory to glory just as by the Spirit of the Lord." (2 Cor. 3:18)
12. Shows us What to Do - "But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you." (John 14:26)
13. Supercedes All Others - The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit." (John 3:8)
14. Service Director - Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. (I Cor 12:7)
15. Suffering Endurer - Rather, as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; 5in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; 6in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love. (2 Cor. 6:4-6)
16. Spiritual Intercessor - In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will.
17. Spiritual Mind Director - The mind of sinful man[a] is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; Romans 8:6 Or mind set on the flesh
the sinful mind[a] is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
18. Spiritual Freedom Giver - Because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.
19. Spiritual Guidance - But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Gal. 5:18,25)
20. Spirit Fights Sinful Nature - For the sinful nature desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the sinful nature. They are in conflict with each other, so that you do not do what you want. (Gal. 5:17)
21. Spiritual Motivation - And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there. (Acts 20:22)
22. Spiritual Fellowship - May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. (2 Cor. 13:14)
23. Spiritual Glorification of Christ - But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (John 16:13)
24. Spiritual Access to the Father - For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. (Eph. 2:18)
25. Spiritual Empowerment - But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. (Acts 1:8)
26. Significance Giver - "You are precious in my sight. You are honored and I love you."
27. Spiritual Fruit - The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Gal. 5:22,23)
28. Spiritual Gifts - For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his[a]faith. 7If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach. (Rom. 12:3-7)
29. Spiritual Blessings - Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. (Eph. 1:3)
30. Spiritual Guarantees - Set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. (2 Cor. 1:22)
31. Sustainer - "Even in your old age I will sustain you." (Ruth 4:15)
32. Spirit of Intelligence - "The Spirit of the Lord will rest on Him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, counsel and power, knowledge and the fear of the Lord." (Isa. 11:2)
33. Spirit of Justice - "In that day the Lord Almighty will be a glorious crown, a beautiful wreath for the remnant of His people. He will be a Spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment." (Isa. 28:5,6)
34. Spirit Who Leads and Empowers us to God’s Goals - Paul wrote, "Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? Does God give you His Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you have heard? (Gal. 3:3,4)
35. Source of Strength - "He will be a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate." (Isa. 28:5,6)
36. Synergistic Solution Giver - "We know that God causes all things to work together for good for those who love God for those who are called according to His purposes. For whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son." (Rom. 8:28,29)
37. Stress Reliever - Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God that passes all comprehension will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Phil. 4:6,7)
38. Stronghold - The Lord is the stronghold of my life, whom shall I fear? (Psa. 27:1,2)
39. Succor - "Because He Himself has suffered He is able to come to the aid of those who are tempted." (Heb. 2:18)
40. Sufficient Grace - "My power is made perfect in weakness for my grace is sufficient for you. Most gladly therefore will I boast of my weakness that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2 Cor. 12:9,10)
41. Sun - The Lord God is a Sun and Shield. The Lord bestows favor and honor. NO good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. (Psa. 84:11)
42. Superior One - He is before all things and in Him all things hold together. (Col. 1:17)
43. Support - "They confronted me in the day of disaster but the Lord was my support." (Psa. 18:18)
44. Spring of Living Water - "My people have committed two sins. They have forsaken me, the spring of living water and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water." (Jer. 2:13)
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me,
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on us.
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on us.
Melt us, mold us, fill us, use us,
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on us.
