Summary: This message is based on Matthew 2:11 when the "Wise men" came to visit Jesus.

Christmas at (Y)our House?Matthew 2:1-18

Intro.

Across America this Christmas millions of homes will celebrate the Christmas season.?   

1. Some will celebrate it with revelry (Food and strong maybe strong drink)?   

2. Some will celebrate it with exchanging gifts?   

3.Some will celebrate it with family?   

4. But very few will celebrate Christmas, but

not really know why.

5. Many houses are decorated on the outside, but how is Christmas celebrated on the inside?

When they came into the house?

I. JESUS WAS IN THE HOUSE: Vs.

11a “...they found the young child..."?   

A. Notice they saw a young child in the house, not in a baby in a manger.

1. Possibly as much as two yeas after his birth.

2. King Herod ordered to have all the children under two years of age killed.

3. He did not want a rival King. (Matt. 2:2)

B. Jesus was the center of attention in the house

1. They did not come to see a virgin who had had a child. (This was the sign given to the shepherds)

2. When a new baby comes into a home it seems to get all the attention. ?

C. Jesus should be the center of attention in our homes.

1. Not just the tree and decorations

2. Not the goodies (Little Debbie cakes)

3. Jesus should be the center of attention in our homes at Christmas time.

Col. 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn

the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

4. First place at all time of the year.

D. Jesus' parents was in the house: "with Mary his mother..."?

1. No mention of Joseph

a. He may have been busy at the carpenter shop.

b. He may have been there, but not mentioned.

2. But Mary was there just as a mother should be?       

II. JESUS WAS WORSHIPED IN THE HOUSE:

…and fell down and worshipped him v.11b

A. This was the original intent of their journey.

Matt. 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star

n the east, and are come to worship him.?   

B. To worship Him is to adore Him,       

1. Jesus was the focus of their worship ?       

2. He is worthy of worship?       

3. Their worship was intentional.

C. The “fell down” at his presence.

? 1. Showing his worthiness to be worshipped.

2. Showing their recognition of who He was.

3. Showing their own humbleness in his

presence.

III. JESUS WAS HONORED IN THE HOUSE:

v.11c "...they presented unto him gifts..."

"Honor" - A place of distinction, a high position?   

A. Honored him with gifts

1. Gold - of highest value, worthy of a King.

Representing His Deity

2. Frankincense - a fragrant incensed used inTemple worship.

Representing His role as High Priest.

Heb. 8:1 ¶ Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have

such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;

3. Myrrh - An embalming oil sided for preparing the dead for burial.

a. Representing his eventual death and burial.

b. What a strange gift for a child.

c. They knew that He would one day die for our sin.

B. What gift can we give him that would honor him:?

1. We can give him our hearts:  In salvation?           

2. We can give him ourselves: In obedience

and service

Rom. 12:1 ¶ I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living

sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. ?           

3. We can give him our resources: In Total Surrender?           

a. We can honor him with our treasure

"They opened their treasures..." Vs. 11c

b. We can honor him with our talents (singing, cooking, etc)?           

c. We can honor him with our time

1) In personal Bible study and prayer

2) In Worship - private and public. (Church)

3) In service - (visitation, soul-wining, helping where needed.

Conclusion:

They presented their gifts to the Savior

What can you present to him.

?But was amazed to hear him say,?"You've left your best Friend out."

But Daddy said, "His Name's not there,?

That Friend Who died for you."

And then I clearly understood,? '

Twas Jesus Whom he meant;?
