Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I want to share with you today a message that I believe God has placed on my heart for His people. It's a message that speaks to us, not just as individuals, but as a collective body of believers, as a community of faith, as the Church. It's a message about our role in the world, about our calling, and about our purpose.
The great preacher Charles Spurgeon once said, "Every Christian is either a missionary or an imposter." This statement, though it may seem harsh at first, is a profound reminder of our calling as followers of Christ. We are called to be His ambassadors, His representatives in the world. We are called to take His message, His love, His grace, and His truth into every corner of our lives, including our workplaces.
Our Scripture today comes from 2 Corinthians 5:20 and Philippians 2:14-18. "Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God." (2 Corinthians 5:20) "Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, 'children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.' Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. So you too should be glad and rejoice with me." (Philippians 2:14-18)
When we think about our daily lives, we often separate our spiritual life from our professional life. We think of church and work as two separate spheres, with little to no overlap. But the truth is, our faith should permeate every aspect of our lives, including our work. We should see our workplaces not just as places to earn a living, but as mission fields where we can serve God and share His love with others.
We are called to be ambassadors for Christ. This means that we represent Him in everything we do, including our work. We are His hands and feet in the world, and through us, He wants to reach out to those who do not yet know Him. Our workplaces provide us with unique opportunities to do this.
The first way we can do this is by doing our work with excellence. When we strive to do our best in our work, we honor God and reflect His character. We show that we are not just employees or business owners, but servants of the Most High God.
The second way we can do this is by treating others with respect and kindness. The way we treat our colleagues, our customers, our employees, and even our competitors can be a powerful witness to the love of Christ. When we treat others with dignity, fairness, and compassion, we show them a glimpse of God's love for them.
The third way we can do this is by standing up for what is right. In a world where corruption, dishonesty, and injustice are often the norm, we are called to be different. We are called to be people of integrity, honesty, and justice. When we stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult or unpopular, we show that we are guided by a higher standard, the standard of God's Word.
The fourth way we can do this is by sharing the hope that we have in Christ. Our workplaces are filled with people who are searching for hope, for meaning, for purpose. As followers of Christ, we have the answer to their search. We have a hope that is not based on our circumstances, but on the unchanging promises of God.
