Children Are Gifts From God
Contributed by Rodney Johnson Sr., on Oct 3, 2015 (message contributor)
Summary: This sermon was preached at the funeral of a 5 year old boy named Jonathan . The objective is to remind us that children belong to God. It's interesting that the name Jonathan means gift of God.
I. Children are God's Treasurable Gift. (They are invaluable because they remind us of the baby Jesus)
II. Children are God's Temporary Gift. (They are temporary because of sin)
III. Children are God's Timeless Gift. (They are timeless because of Christ death for sin)
III. God's Son was His Transcendent Gift. (Christ is the transcendent gift because He died for us and subsequently gave us the right to the gift eternal life)
Conclusion: Burying a child is like putting a period before the end of a sentence. Someone said; you can bury everyone except a child. He / she remains lodged in the mind of love ones. Remember the words of David; the child cannot return to me but I will go to him. When God calls a child home; it seems hard to us but maybe God has a greater purpose in heaven for the child. God gave His Son to save our sons and daughters. Heaven looks exactly like children and they look like heaven. The child left your arms to move into the everlasting arms.
