CHARACTER STUDY OF JESUS CHRIST – THE SON OF GOD, SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD

Supporting Texts: Matthew 1:21, John 3:16, Philippians 2:5-11, Colossians 1:15-20, Hebrews 1:3.
INTRODUCTION:
Jesus Christ is the central figure of Christianity, the Son of God, and the Saviour of the world. His birth, life, ministry, death, and resurrection form the foundation of the Christian faith. He came to redeem mankind from sin and reconcile us to God.
Jesus is unique because He is both fully God and fully man. His teachings, miracles, and sacrificial death demonstrate God’s love for humanity. His resurrection confirms His victory over sin and death. Through this study, we will examine different aspects of Jesus' character and His impact on humanity.
1. JESUS CHRIST AS THE SON OF GOD
a) His divine nature (John 1:1-3, 14)
Jesus existed from the beginning with God and was Himself God. He took on flesh to dwell among us.
b) His relationship with the Father (John 10:30)
Jesus declared that He and the Father are one, showing His divine unity with God.
c) His authority over all creation (Colossians 1:15-17)
Jesus is the image of the invisible God and holds all things together by His power.
d) His eternal priesthood (Hebrews 7:24-25)
Unlike earthly priests, Jesus intercedes for us eternally as our High Priest.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus' baptism confirmed His Sonship when the Father declared, "This is My beloved Son" (Matthew 3:16-17).
2. JESUS CHRIST AS THE SAVIOUR OF THE WORLD
a) His mission was to save sinners (Matthew 1:21, Luke 19:10)
Jesus came to deliver mankind from sin and reconcile us to God.
b) His death on the cross (Romans 5:8, 1 Peter 2:24)
Jesus bore our sins on the cross, demonstrating God’s love and justice.
c) His resurrection and victory over death (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Revelation 1:18)
Jesus rose from the dead, proving His power over sin and death.
d) Salvation is only through Him (John 14:6, Acts 4:12)
Jesus is the only way to eternal life; no other name can save.
e) Biblical Example: The thief on the cross received salvation by believing in Jesus (Luke 23:42-43).
3. JESUS CHRIST AS THE PERFECT EXAMPLE OF LOVE AND HUMILITY
a) His compassion for sinners (John 8:10-11, Luke 7:47-50)
Jesus forgave sinners and welcomed them into God’s kingdom.
b) His humility and servant-heart (Philippians 2:5-8, John 13:4-5)
Though God, He humbled Himself to serve and die for humanity.
c) His love for all people (Matthew 9:36, John 15:13)
Jesus loved deeply and gave His life for the salvation of many.
d) His patience and gentleness (Matthew 11:28-30)
Jesus was gentle and patient, calling sinners to repentance with love.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus washed His disciples' feet, teaching them to serve others (John 13:12-15).
4. JESUS CHRIST AS THE GREAT TEACHER AND MIRACLE WORKER
a) His teachings carried divine wisdom (Matthew 7:28-29)
People were astonished at His doctrine because He taught with divine authority.
b) His parables revealed deep spiritual truths (Matthew 13:10-17)
Jesus used parables to teach about the kingdom of God.
c) His miracles demonstrated God’s power (John 11:43-44, Mark 4:39)
Jesus performed miracles to show God’s glory and bring healing.
d) His authority over demons and sickness (Mark 1:32-34, Luke 8:26-33)
Jesus cast out demons and healed the sick, proving His divine power.
e) Biblical Example: Jesus fed 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish (John 6:5-13).
5. JESUS CHRIST AS THE COMING KING AND JUDGE
a) He will return to establish His kingdom (Matthew 24:30, Revelation 19:11-16)
Jesus will come again to reign as King of kings and Lord of lords.
b) He will judge the living and the dead (2 Corinthians 5:10, Revelation 20:11-15)
Jesus is the righteous Judge before whom all will stand.
c) His followers will reign with Him (2 Timothy 2:12, Revelation 22:5)
Those who believe in Him will share in His eternal kingdom.
d) The world will bow before Him (Philippians 2:9-11, Revelation 5:13)
Every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that He is Lord.
e) Biblical Example: In the Parable of the Ten Virgins, Jesus teaches about His second coming and the need for readiness (Matthew 25:1-13).
CONCLUSION:
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Saviour of the world, and the perfect example for all believers. His life, death, and resurrection demonstrate God’s love and power. He is our High Priest, our Teacher, our King, and our soon-coming Judge. Every person must make a decision to accept Him as Lord and Saviour.
As we study His character, may we strive to follow in His footsteps, living in faith, love, and obedience to God.
