CHARACTER STUDY OF ABIGAIL – WISE WOMAN WHO SAVED DAVID FROM BLOODSHED

"And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me: And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand."

INTRODUCTION:
Abigail was a woman of wisdom, beauty, and discernment who played a crucial role in preventing unnecessary bloodshed. She was the wife of Nabal, a wealthy but foolish man who insulted David. Recognising the danger her husband had brought upon their household, Abigail acted swiftly, humbly, and wisely to avert disaster.
Her story highlights the power of wisdom, the importance of humility, and the reward of righteousness. She teaches us that godly wisdom can defuse conflicts, and that God honours those who pursue peace. Ultimately, Abigail’s actions not only saved lives but also positioned her for divine favour.
1. ABIGAIL’S CHARACTER AND BACKGROUND

The Bible describes Abigail as a woman of good understanding and a beautiful countenance, signifying both inner and outer qualities.

Her husband, Nabal, was harsh, arrogant, and lacked wisdom.

2. NABAL’S FOOLISHNESS AND ITS CONSEQUENCES

Even his own servants knew that he was a man who would not listen to reason.

Ten days after Abigail’s intervention, the Lord struck Nabal dead.

3. ABIGAIL’S WISE INTERVENTION
