Summary: A sermon about being equipped to be fishers of men and being intentional about winning souls

For bass we used artificial lures and for brim we used red worms.

Now when I wanted to catch me some big ole alligator gar I always used a devils horse.

It matters what bait you use if you want to catch fish.

And you know it matters what bait you use to fish for men to. Everybody doesn’t respond to the same thing.

You know young people don’t respond to the same thing that older people respond to; you don’t fish for an addict the same way you fish for someone who just lost their spouse.

When your fishing for men, you need to tell them what God can do for them and there situation. A drug addict isn’t concerned about Christ blessing him with a good job and a hot meal; he is concerned about Christ being there to help him get rid of his addiction.

A homeless person isn’t concerned about the church worship order as much as he is concerned about his next meal.

You have to minister to people with Love and compassion and tell them how Christ can meet their specific needs. You have to use the right kind of Bait.

I found out when I was cat fishing all the time that the best bait to use was Live bait. Man those catfish loved crawfish, night crawlers and shad, it seemed that any fish liked live bait more.

Fishing for men is no different live bait is best. And guess what the bait is. You, you are the bait; your actions, your love and compassion and your genuine Christian love are the best bait that you can use.

Paul said it best in

1 Corinthians 9:20-22

I act like a Jew to the Jews, so I can recruit Jews. I act like I’m under the Law to those under the Law, so I can recruit those who are under the Law.

I act like I’m outside the Law to those who are outside the Law, so I can recruit those outside the Law (though I’m not outside the law of God but rather under the law of Christ).

I act weak to the weak, so I can recruit the weak.

I have become all things to all people, so I could save some by all possible means.

So, are you catching anything?? If not maybe you may need to go into deeper water.

Sometimes it seems that the church operates on a catch and release program (people will come a few times and move on). We need to get off of this catch and release program and get on the catch and stay plan.

Jesus told Simon “Row out farther, into the deep water, and drop your nets for a catch.”

Maybe we need to do the same thing and be intentional about going out deeper.

Deeper in the word

Deeper in our prayer life

Deeper in our love

Deeper in our walk with Christ

Deeper in our compassion

Deeper in our faith

Catching anything?

Check your depth, check your tackle box, is your bait alive.

Jesus said Follow me & I will make you fishers of Men.

Let Jesus equip you, let him guide you.

Let’s Go Fishing.
