Psalm 55:1-17 16 Calling on God

1. His Desertion -

His Prayer - 1 Give ear to my prayer, O God;

His Problem - and hide not thyself from my supplication.

His Plea - 2 Attend unto me, and hear me:

His Protest - 2 I mourn in my complaint, and make a noise;

2. His Deception -

His Enemy - 3 Because of the voice of the enemy

His Enmity - 3 because of the oppression of the wicked:

His Acrimony - 3 for they cast iniquity upon me, and in wrath they hate me.

Their Harm - the oppression of the wicked

Their Harassment - 3 for they cast iniquity upon me,

Their Hatred - 3 and in wrath they hate me.

3. His Dejection -

The Guilt of Sin - 4 My heart is sore pained within me:

The Grief of Sin - 4 And the terrors of death have fallen upon me

4. His Dread - 5 Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me,

and horror hath overwhelmed me.

5. His Desire To - 6-8

Fly - 6 And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove, for then would I fly away, and be at rest.

Flee - 7 then would I wander far off, and remain in the wilderness.

Float 8 I would hasten my escape from the windy storm & tempest

6. His Discouragement - 9-15

Their Violence - 9 Destroy, O Lord, and divide their tongues:

for I have seen violence and strife in the city.

Their Vigilance - 10 Day and night they go about it upon the walls thereof:

mischief also and sorrow are in the midst of it.

Their Viciousness - 11 Wickedness is in the midst thereof:

deceit and guile depart not from her streets.

Their Vindictiveness - 12 For it was not an enemy that reproached me; then I could have borne it: neither was it he that hated me that did magnify himself against me; then I would have hid myself from him: 13 but it was thou, a man mine equal, my guide, and mine acquaintance.

Their Vengeance - Their Word - 14 We took sweet counsel together,

Their Worship - 14 and walked unto the house of God in company.

Their Wickedness - 15 Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell:

for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them.

7. His Determination - 16-17 - Prayer Is -

A Personal Decision - 16 "As for me"

A Practical Decision - "I will call upon God"

A Powerful Decision - "And the LORD shall save me"

A Persistent Decision - 17 Evening and morning and at noon will I pray

A Passionate Decision - "and cry aloud"

A Positive Decision - "and He shall hear my voice"
