Caleb - A Man With A Different Spirit
Contributed by Shashi Marian on Feb 25, 2026 (message contributor)
Summary: Throughout the Bible we find many people being titled with different titles. Some amazing testimonies while some negative depending upon their lifestyle and their relationship with God. One such wonderful testimony from God is what we are gonna look at in the next few lines.
When God testifies something about someone it is a matter of great joy. God did speak about a few people of God in applause and in appreciation. I want to jot down one such testimony about a wonderful man called Caleb.
The meaning of this word Caleb means faithful, devoted or whole-hearted. Indeed we see him upto it.
In Numbers 14:24 we see God calling Caleb as a man with a different spirit. Many other great men of God were called with different titles in the Bible but the title of Caleb is entirely different.
What made God call Caleb as a man with a different spirit? The following few lines will help us understand the same.
Caleb was one of the 12 spies who was sent to spy the land. Joshua was one of them also.
1. He was courageous man.
The 10 spies brought a report that was not favorable except Caleb and Joshua who said that the land was good. They were of the opinion that it cannot be possessed. They were filled with fear. Only Caleb and Joshua insisted that the land may be possessed. In Numbers 13:30 and Numbers 14:6-9 we could see that.
2. He was a man of Faith.
Faith plays a very important role in one's life. The Bible says that without faith we cannot please God. The others looked with a different perspective but Joshua and Caleb looked through the eyes of faith.
Faith fetches great results when it is operated upon.
3. He had the report of God.
The 10 spies carried a bad report. Only Caleb and Joshua carried the report of God. Many people trust other people's report. While some carry their blood and scan reports and believe what is mentioned. The Word is the Report of God. God calls those things which are not as if they are. We have every solution in the Word. We only should dare to believe it. Let us put our trust in God and His Word.
4. He had a positive mindset.
I have come across many people who carry a negative mindset. They keep confessing negative most of the time. They have become victims of their own negative confessions. Having a positive mindset or attitude is very important in the Kingdom of God. Caleb was focused on positive aspect. He did not look at the land like the others did. His view was positive oriented. Let us renounce every negativity and confess positive so as to see positive results in our lives. Numbers 14:37, 38 says that the 10 spies who spoke negative died while Caleb and Joshua lived.
5. He was invincible.
It is recorded that Caleb drove out the Anakites. Anakites were basically giants who were in the land. Caleb fought them. He drove them out. Caleb said that he had the strength as that of 40 even when he was aged 80.
My Prayer is that every believer in Christ would inculcate the chacteristics as mentioned in the Word of God so as to earn a testimony from God.
God bless you abundantly !!!
