A man went to see his doctor in the dead of winter because he was suffering from the most miserable cold he’d ever had.

His doctor prescribed some pills, but they didn't help.

The next day the doctor gave him a shot, but that didn't do any good.

On his third visit the doctor told the man to go home & take a hot bath. The doctor told him, “As soon as you are finished bathing I want you to throw open all the windows & stand in the draft. It doesn’t matter how cold you get, just stand there for twenty minutes.”

The patient immediately protested, “But doc, if I do that, I'll surely get pneumonia.”

“I know,” said the physician. “I can cure pneumonia.”

The doctor possessed the remedy for a particular problem!

Jesus is THE remedy for your particular problem...your sin & sinfulness!

Background:

~700 years prior to the Cross of Christ Jesus, Isaiah prophesied of the substitutionary atonement which would one day come thru God’s “Servant”(52:13a). Isaiah records details of the coming Servant’s willing sacrifice for the sake of all sinners.

The prophet Isaiah declared a future time when God’s unique Servant would provide the remedy for sin.

Jesus is God’s remedy for sin.

Why/How/When is Jesus God’s remedy for sin?

Our reception of Jesus as God’s remedy for personal sin.

‘RECEIVE’—More than mental acceptance, which only makes possibilities plausible. ‘Receiving’ on the other hand, has to do with acceptance by the heart, so that what is received, is taken to the point of actual reliance upon that which is received or in a Christian context, Who is received.

Jn. 1:10-13—“He[Jesus, The Word] was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

Explanation:(53:7)Suffering/Perseverance

53:7—“He was oppressed & He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.”

“He was oppressed & He was afflicted,”

This One upon whom YHWH has laid all our iniquity(53:4:a-b, 5, 6c), was both “oppressed” & “afflicted” by men.

•People of the Servant’s time would attempt to coerce Him into conformity & away from what He knows to be true.

“Oppressed”—sgn naw-gas’—Niphal(passive) Perfect—1) To press, drive, oppress, exact, exert demanding pressure—1a) (Qal)--1a1) To press, drive, 1a2) To exact, 1a3) Driver, taskmaster, ruler, oppressor, tyrant, lord, exactor of tribute(participle); 1b) (Niphal)--To be hard pressed. “Yet He opened not His mouth;”

However, even though the Servant would be pressured to conform, even to the point of death exacted of Him, Yet He would “not” open His mouth” against them. He would leave them to their fleshly derived devices. He would not argue with them nor would he bad-mouth them. They had chosen their course, giving first place to any false belief that had been levied about Him.

Mat. 9:1-3—“So He[Jesus] got into a boat, crossed over, & came to His own city[Capernaum]. Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.” And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!””

Mat. 26:59-66—“Now the chief priests, the elders, & all the council sought false testimony against Jesus to put Him to death, but found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last two false witnesses came forward & said, “This fellow said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God & to build it in three days.’” And the high priest arose & said to Him, “Do You answer nothing? What is it these men testify against You?” But Jesus kept silent. And the high priest answered & said to Him, “I put You under oath by the living God: Tell us if You are the Christ, the Son of God!” Jesus said to him, “It is as you said. Nevertheless, I say to you, hereafter you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Power, & coming on the clouds of heaven.” Then the high priest tore his clothes, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! What further need do we have of witnesses? Look, now you have heard His blasphemy! What do you think?” They answered & said, “He is deserving of death.”
