BY HIS STRIPES-III—Isaiah 52:13—53:1-12

OR: God’s Remedy For Sin

Attention:

A ‘savant’ is “a person affected with a developmental disorder(such as autism or intellectual disability) who exhibits exceptional skill or brilliance in some limited field (such as mathematics or music).”

*Kim Peek(1951-2009) was a savant who’s life was the inspiration for the movie ‘Rainman.’

Mr. Peek was born with severe brain damage. Doctors suggested that Kim should be sent to an institution where he could be properly taken care of. They reasoned that his disabilities would keep him from walking & being able to function by himself. Kim ended up being able to walk but his father had to attend to Kim constantly. He couldn’t even button his own shirt.

However, Kim had an amazing ability to read books two pages at a time, within three seconds, & remember everything he had read in them! He would read the left page with his left eye & the right page with his right eye. He could accurately recall the content of over 12,000 books!

It is a seeming paradox that a person who may be able to do what other people are totally incapable of, may have absolutely no ability to physically take care of themselves.

Need:

It is a ‘seeming’ paradox that the remedy for sin resides in One who was executed as a criminal, but Who’s death was actually the sacrificial payment for every man’s sin.

~700 years prior to the Cross of Christ Jesus, Isaiah prophesied of the substitutionary atonement which would one day come thru God’s “Servant”(52:13a). Isaiah records details of the coming Servant’s willing sacrifice for the sake of all sinners.

The prophet Isaiah declared a future time when God’s unique Servant would provide the remedy for sin.

Jesus is God’s remedy for sin.

Why/How/When is Jesus God’s remedy for sin?

We receive certain truths when we receive Jesus as God’s remedy for personal sin.

‘RECEIVE’—More than mental acceptance, which only makes possibilities plausible. ‘Receiving’ has to do with acceptance by the heart, so that what is received, is taken to the point of actual reliance upon what or Who is received.

We have already found that By His stripes we receive the Servant’s...

UNAPPROACHABLE HEIGHT Of EXALTATION(52:13b)

Explanation:(52:13b)Unattainable

52:13—“Behold, My Servant shall deal prudently; He shall be exalted & extolled & be very high.”

“He shall be exalted & extolled & be very high.”

Thus He will be “exalted”, “extolled”, & lifted up “very” highly above any other’s exaltation.

Php. 2:9-11—“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him & given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, & of those on earth, & of those under the earth, & that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

All of these words(verbs) together have to do with holding or viewing God’s unique “Servant” far ‘above’ any of humanity. They all imply that the “Servant” will be God Himself.

•Exalted—To rise, raise, be uplifted.

•Extolled—To lift, be swept up.

•Very High—To be lofty, exalted, soar.

Thruout the world, & at various times in history, there have been, are, & will be,— kings, emperors, dynastic leaders, presidents, dictators, autocrats, & otherwise governing officials—that pridefully view themselves as indispensable,...as gods, or as godlike. They see themselves as the bearers of perfect intellect & truth, & above correction from any whom they look down on.

People are created beings. And although we are the pinnacle of God’s creation, only in Christ is our freewill fully surrendered & engaged. Contrary to Mormonism, people do not attain godhood or god-status! We are to ‘be’ Christlike & Godlike but will never ‘be’ divine beings. We are only associated with God as His children, bondservants, & friends who are redeemed by the blood of His unique & only-begotten son!
